millerp Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Hello Everyone I have a St Croix 7 ft bait caster med heavy mod action rod 3/8 -1 oz 10 toi 20 lb test. Is this rod good for all around types of lures and fishing or what type of fishing lures would this rod best be suited for, and what reel would you put on it ? Quote
TylerT123 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 It would be good for crankbaits, you could put a reel with a low gear ratio on it. Can’t say a specific reel without a price range. 1 Quote
millerp Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 200.00 would be the most I would spend. Thanks, how about top water no good or jigs? Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Just about any treble hook lure presentation. As for the reel, I'd say something around a 7.1 gear ratio, unless you'll be doing a lot of deeper cranking and I'd stick to a Daiwa or Shimano. You don't need to spend $200 for a quality reel. Both companies offer quality reels under that. Quote
TylerT123 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Some people use it for bladed jigs, jerkbaits, spoons, lipless rattletraps, swimbaits, topwater, spinnerbaits, poppers, dropshot, and most lures with treble hooks. The reels I’ve heard great things and are in your price range are the Tatula SV TWS, Curado K, Revo Winch(for deep cranks) and Revo STX. Quote
millerp Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 Thanks all I been looking at the Tatula and the Curado I like the break adjustment on the tatula looks easier to get to then the curado, Quote
TylerT123 Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 The centrifugal brakes(inside) on the Curado, will be your primary while the outside will just be a finer tune, like for wind...etc. Quote
