Justbass11 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Been looking at replacing my old Shimano Curado CU-200 for awhile now, it’s about 25 yrs old. I do have 2 newer Shimano’s but change to Lews and like them better then the Shimano’s. My problem is that I went to the expo at the Bassmaster Classic (which was great) this past weekend. I was going past the Abu Garcia booth and was thinking about trying one of them after talking to one of the Pro’s. Would like some inputs from you guys that own both reels. I spend about $100.00 -$120.00 for my reels. Thanks for the inputs...happy fishing Quote
desmobob Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 You won't know what you like best until you try them all! :-) Trying different brands can be an eye-opener. Tight lines, Bob 1 Quote

I think the brakes and performance of the Revos are better than Lews. But Lews wins when it comes to smoothness. For $120 I would check eBay for a Gen 4 Revo SX. I bought mine from $80-$115. Dual brakes and very smooth. 1 Quote
desmobob Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I like reading reviews. In the past, I chose a few reels that received Tackle Tour's "best value" rating and was very happy with them: Lew's Tournament Pro, Daiwa Tatula, Abu Orra Winch. Check out Tackle Tour's review archives and take a look at their excellent tests and reviews. Something might catch your eye. Tight lines, Bob Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted March 19, 2018 Super User Posted March 19, 2018 $125... I'd be determining what I want the reel to do and research ~$200 reels of the last couple years to narrow the field then watch the swap/sell boards of a couple popular sites. This is the time of year I'm seeing lots of reel purging by tournament guys and you should be able to find a nice $200 class reel in your budget. After procuring your reel, send it to DVT for a thorough cleaning. There's a significant jump in quality/benefits in a $200 class reel over a $125 class reel... oe Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Lews and ABU are built in the same factory. Lews tend to run a tad cheaper on a feature for feature basis. Many parts are interchangeable. 2 1 Quote

Some Cadillacs came off the assembly lines with Chevy valve covers and some other parts with bow ties instead of duck badges a while back, many were convinced the parts were inferior, but in this case we don't know which is a Seville, and which is a Nova,...(I'm convinced the Cimarron was a Yugo though.)... 1 Quote
Boogey Man Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Lews Tournament MB is my pick in that price range, especially since you can find them on eBay for about $108. 3 Quote
Will1248 Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I use both but have to say lews is best in market for quality and price. I like my abus for lighter baits such as topwaters and weightless worms, spool spins more freely for some reason. Pflueger for spinning reels though :} Quote
Gorris317 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I currently fish a Tatula CT but just picked a Lews Speedspool LFS ($99) reel and I'm really happy with it. If it holds up as well as the Tatula I will be throwing more of these in my arsenal for sure. I seem to cast a little further with the Lews than the Tatula. The build quality seems about the same on both. Overall, you can't go wrong with either one of those. As for the Abu, I bought an SX when Gander Mountain was going out of business. I had them throw line on it and I went straight to the lake. After about 2 hours of fishing I took it home and put it on ebay. The reel just felt like complete junk and I thought it was a waste of money. Quote

Cak920 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Personally I’ve fished abu, pfleuger, shimano, and Daiwa. Daiwa is hands down my favorite wether it’s casting or spinning. Just got a Tatula ct and I love it. I haven’t tried lews yet so I can’t say much about them other than I hear good things. Quote
Justbass11 Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 Just a update...today I went and bought a Abu Garcia Revo4. Hope to use it in the next few days if it does rain. Thanks again for all the replies Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted March 24, 2018 Super User Posted March 24, 2018 Ebay has a 20% off code right now. Lots of $200ish Lews priced right around your wheelhouse. Quote

It makes me laugh. Best I've ever experienced was years ago, I was researching lawn tractors, had it down to Kubota and John Deere, was looking for experiences and service and durability...and some rocket surgeon told me I needed to get an ATV with a plow and pull behind mower... PS: I've done it too. Plenty of times. Quote
