OhheyCindy Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 so I bought one from tacklewarehouse on black friday and one from ebay when they had a 20 percent off sale and i notice slight differences between the two. one of them, the knobs spin way longer than the other. and one when you spin the handle, spins longer than the other one. is this weird or am i just being weird? also, the reel from ebay i got for 219, plus the 20 percent off. how do they sell reels for under retail? i think i am just being paranoid but if anyone has any input i would appreciate it. I don't know about that model, but I've never seen any 2 reels that were exactly the same. How much grease they packed in it, and how long its been sitting around, are just 2 of the things that can cause the difference. Of course there could be minor differences too, "specifications subject to change without notice" is a standard blurb in most warranty docs (of most things not just reels). Quote

Brakes aren't going to have anything to do with the handle spinning longer. It's probably due to two people putting them together. Some get more heavy handed with the grease/oil than others. Could have something to do with the climate they were stored in as well. A warmer warehouse may have changed the viscosity of the oil, compared to a cooler building. Quote

jbrew73 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Spool tension setting, amount of lube and mag brakes will definitely affect the spin time but centrifugal brakes typically do not but that would depend on the exact type of centrifugal brake used. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 How long the knobs,handle or spool for that matter spin, means nothing at all in regard to the reels qualify or fitness. It equates to kicking the tires on a car. Check the normal operation (release, engagement, drag, adjustments) fish them hard to rule out any warranty issues then have them serviced in the off season.
