Bank Fishing

So i am pretty new to bass fishing. Here at Ft Stewart, GA we have several ponds that are open to fish and I just started last week and Ive only caught 1 fish. I go try out soft baits, swimbaits, crankbaits, etc. but i don't know it seems like i can't catch anything anymore. I have seen all the videos on youtube about bank fishing and i feel like that just doesn't work. I feel like there are no fish lol but i know there are. Is there anything im doing wrong? Like colors of baits, or when to use what and some of the ponds don't necassarly have points the have some grassy areas and some spots where the fish would be but nothing happens and Im getting a little discouraged not going to lie. So im just looking for some info on bank fishing anything would be helpful. Thanks.

If you've caught 1 fish and you just started you're off to a good start. Without knowing the ponds, your equipment, or the region my only advice is to slow down and downsize your presentation.

Let's talk about what's going g on right now.  The fish are shallow for the spawn and here in ausing there inches from the bank.  Are you casting out into the middle or along the bank.  Did your fish spawn this past full moon.  They get funky before the post spawn feed bag goes back on.  The seasonal pattern I think is the most critical right now.

Select 1 ea. Topwater, 1ea. Mid-depth, & 1 ea. Bottom contact 

 

2-3 colors in each is fine

 

Try fishing each lure from every spot & cover the water by fan casting 180•.

Started last week ad already hooked up. Took me a month to get my first bass. 

 

Things will get easier. Idk about the weather in GA but it's been up and down for the past few weeks here making finding my fish harder then I expected.

I will just add this.......As a bank fisherman, whenever I start at some new waters, I typically always start small.   My go to's for pond fishing are paddletail swimbaits and curly tail grubs in the 3" size, and slow-sinking baits also in the 3" size.  I typically dont work the bottom until Ive become a little more familiar with the pond. 

 

My preferred go-to KISS baits, are

- Keitech FAT 2.8" swimbaits

- Kalins 3" lunker grubs

- Yamamoto 3" Senko, on a #2 EWG hook.

- Yamamoto Fat Ika, on a 3/0 EWG hook.

 

But of course those are conditional on how much slop there is in the pond.   In case of excessive slop, go with a small hollow body frog or buzz toad. 

 

This combination of baits here has always been productive for me, under most conditions.

seems your using all moving baits. they work, but alot of the time bass will not chase a moving bait too much. this is especially true during the spawn. try a texas rigged bait - brush hogs, beaver style bait, lizard - they all will work. drag it slowly across the bottom. a trick worm or senko rigged wacky style is also a good bait during the spawn.

both these rigs will sit right in the bass' face and won't force the bass to leave it's bed to chase it.
