Anybody from around there? Is it frozen? I'm asking because I'll be in Plattsburgh for a few days and was thinking I can bring a rod and maybe catch some smallmouth. Are there any good spots to bank fish from?

I'll bet it's still frozen.  We've three nor'easters rip thru, and temps at night have been in the low 20s, and Champ is north of us and at a higher elevation.  I don't really know about any shore spots.  It's such a huge lake, I've only fished by boat.

I'm at the very bottom end.  South Bay is open around the boat launch and the narrow section is open north towards Ticonderoga.

BUT... we have a week of below-freezing temperatures forecasted, with lows in the single digits for a couple of nights.  It's not supposed to get above freezing here until Thursday.  There's a vey good chance the open water will freeze up again.

Hang in there,

Bob

Durn it,  was gonna be there this Sunday thru Tuesday. This was planned a few months ago, figured maybe the lake would be unfrozen by now. Oh well thanks for the input.

Definitely not thawed up here yet (northern VT) on lake Champlain.. we got over a foot of snow last week.. and it was below zero this morning..

Im not sure if the ice is safe enough to even ice fish anymore.. I haven't been out in two weeks and it's killing me!

Yeah, I'm here... In the arctic... Makes Jersey look tropical. Everything is frozen.

12" of terribly weak ice with 10" of crusty snow and a lot of really pent up guys...   Paradise up here man, paradise.

Should go quick, I'd say 2 weeks and we'll have a mostly open lake.

When the lake is not frozen a good area to fish from is Bulwagga Bay Dr, Port Henry, 12974 There is a concrete pier with benches next to the public boat launch.
