LxVE Bassin Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I finally added my first spinning set up to my bass arsenal. I got a Daiwa Ballistic LT and put 15lb green braid on it. I have never failed a vision test in my life and I have never had problems seeing braided line in the 30-50lb range on my baitcasters. I couldn’t even see the line during my casts with the 15lb braid. I know a lot of guys on here use high vis colors to see line better but do high vis colors really make much of a difference when using small diameter lines like 10 and 15lb braid? Quote
MDbassin Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Yes it does. Throw some yellow or pink braid on that puppy and put a flourocarbon leader and your good. Won't hurt your catch rate.....might even make it better as now you can see the bite before you feel it. I made the switch to yellow power pro a couple years ago and I will never put green braid (unless it's like a hi-viz green) on my spinning reel again. My suggestion is 15-20lb braid and since it's for a spinning reel get a 8 strand braid like power pro super slick 8, suffix 832. 2 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted March 15, 2018 Super User Posted March 15, 2018 I went to hi vis yellow this yr. fishing at dawn and dust really screws me up then I can’t see the line 2 Quote
rcg703 Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I switched to high vis this year as well. Going to test it out this weekend. 1 Quote
MDbassin Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Congrats on the new reel also. Got to play around with the new LT line last weekend they are nice and the ballistic was awsome 1 Quote
Chowderhead Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Just switched to hi-viz yellow Daiwa braid to go on the new Stradic ci4. Excited to give it a try. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 15, 2018 Super User Posted March 15, 2018 I've got some Hi-Vis yellow to try. Can't wait to get it spooled after fishing this evening. Dark green braid is impossible to see in low light for more than a few yards. 1 Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 15, 2018 Super User Posted March 15, 2018 High vis rocks for bottom contact baits, where the technique is all about feel! 1 Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I fish 15-20lb PP Slick in Hi-Vis yellow on my spinning gear and it can make all the difference. Even when the line fades (they all fade some) I still have no problem watching it. It can make a big difference when you have to fish finesse on lakes, or while watching your drift on a river in a current. Generally, I'll fish either Hybrid or FC leaders and will say that it's absolutely allowed me to catch fish that I otherwise would have never known took my bait. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 15, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 15, 2018 I use the bright pink KastKing super power braid. Yellow is harder for me to see than the pink for some reason. 2 Quote

Will have to try the pink next time I need some braid. 1 Quote
desmobob Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Hi visibility colors surely help. I use yellow but will definitely try pink in the future. I have always tried to pick a easily-visible line since the old days of glowing Stren mono. Tight lines, Bob 1 Quote
Preytorien Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Makes a huge difference. I use lime green YGK Soul X-8 and if it were any other color I'd never be able to see it. Considering it's my finesse rig, mostly for Ned Rigs, being able to not only feel but also SEE the line jump is critical. I think your line choice will benefit you quite well here in Central IN where finesse is part of our every-trip arsenal. 1 Quote
DSTN Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 As others have stated, it's a bug difference. I used dark green for a couple seasons and struggled to see my line most of the time. Switched to chartreuse this year and wish I did it sooner. 2 Quote
BeardedBassGuy Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 I switched to yellow power pro last year and love it. As others have said you can see the bite before you feel it. I use 15lb braid with a 10 lb floro leader around 6 feet or so. Highly recommended. 2 Quote
LCG Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 10lb yellow braid on spinning with 8lb fluorocarbon or mono leader. 50lb yellow braid on casting. 15lb mono leader or black sharpie. Quote
TigerMack Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 At the risk of further contributing to the redundancy in this thread, I also switched from green to hi-vis yellow. Makes a huge difference to me and I will never go back. Might try pink at some point, but I'm in no hurry because the yellow works so well for me. 1 Quote
FishDewd Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 I've looked at a lot of high-vis braids that are available near me, and I ended up going with Spiderwire stealthbraid. It was the smoothest I could find, I don't really like the ones that are "bumpy" cause I feel like they will affect casting too much due to friction through the eyelets. Unless anyone knows of something better I could try? Quote

Happybeerbuzz Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 I started using yellow a couple of years back. Recently, I bought some green Power Pro because it was on sale, and I felt like I couldn't pass it up at the time. It was a mistake. The next time I respool, it will be with hi vis line. I have only tried hi vis yellow. To those who have tried multiple colors/products, which do you recommend as the absolute highest visibility? Quote
volzfan59 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Makes all the difference in the world. If you want, use a leader or like I do, color the last ten feet or so with a black Sharpie. 1 Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted March 19, 2018 Super User Posted March 19, 2018 I've got moss green 12# Gliss on a number of spinning rods and that line is totally invisible 90% of the time. Won't be buying more of it. I do like yellow and chartreuse. Quote
