Super User Mobasser Posted March 12, 2018 Super User Posted March 12, 2018 Does anyone still use this style of handle? My favorite is an old Lews rod with a graphite tape on handle. Sensitive and comfortable too Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted March 12, 2018 Super User Posted March 12, 2018 Yes. There aren't a whole lot of them being marketed, but they work well. I like that you can perfectly balance the reel on the rod, and there is no threaded plastic/graphite under your fingers on the reel seat. I take off the rings and tape the reel on. Most good custom surf rods are still being made with just cork tape, even some conventional casting ones. 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted March 12, 2018 Super User Posted March 12, 2018 I just got my first tenn handled rod a few months ago and I think I like them. I have my reel set to make the tip float up and I really like it. I am a huge fussy baby when it comes to spinning rod ergonomics, so I think I am going to stick with Tenn grips on my next custom. Super User Mobasser Posted March 12, 2018 Author Super User Posted March 12, 2018 I've become used to mine over the years and really like it. I wish more major rod companies would produce them.Graphite or cork. Both work good Quote
LionHeart Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Silly question, but what is a TN handle? I googled it and saw pictures of reels that look like they are attatched with electrical tape. Quote

Originally they were used with metal or plastic rings that just slid up the reel foot, but most folks tape the reel on. Quote
sll Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Every spinning rod I have or will ever have are TN handles. And I have a reel good supply of them put back... 2 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted March 13, 2018 Super User Posted March 13, 2018 My favorite dropshot rod has a Tennessee handle with rings as does my wife's. Also, my spybait rod has one. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I have a 7'6" ultra light (AKA noodle rod) with a Tennessee handle my Michigan brother gifted me with the reel. Being bass oriented I don't use it that much, but when he came to visit me in Virginia and gave it to me, I caught a young stripper on a shad dart on the river and that was an interesting experience on an ultra light. Oh man, that would be a great white perch rod! Jerking perch is great, if you find them schooled up you can catch dozens every hours. Quote
