Jmp_37 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 I’m looking to buy a swimbait rod, I’ll be throwing mattlures u2 bluegills, Huddleston bluegills, and other soft swimbait around 1-1.5oz. I would also like to throw some 2oz spinnerbaits for pike and light Muskie with this rod as well though. It’s going to be paired with a Shimano Curado 200i. I know it’s not the best line capacity but it’s all I got. I don’t want a very long handle either. I’d like it to be balanced with the reel. I was looking at the Fenwick elite tech bass rod 7’9” since it has a shorter handle end I like the specs but would also like to hear what you guys suggest. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 11, 2018 Super User Posted March 11, 2018 Dobyn's Fury 795 is tough to beat for that application and it comes in at a nice price point. 2 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted March 11, 2018 Super User Posted March 11, 2018 Avid-x 74h works money in that range and can be used for pitching as well. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted March 11, 2018 Super User Posted March 11, 2018 Fenwick elite tech, I don't have one but I've heard a lot of good review and if anything like Fenwick Ateos line, it should handle the lures you listed just fine. One thing to consider, both new Ateos and Elite tech use same titanium insert which I have problem with tip top guide being scratch by braid line. I talked to local tackle shop who fixed the rod for me and we summed up as titanium guide is strong but cannot withstand heat very well. BTW I use curado Ipg for my medium size swimbait up to 2 oz as well. Quote
5by3 Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Dobyns fury 795. Great rod for the price, especially if you don’t want to drop $200-300 on a rod you may not use as frequently as others. Quote
Jmp_37 Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 I’d like the Dobyns fury rod but the issue is the handle length, I’d like it to be balanced and I feel like the Curado would feel small on it. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted March 11, 2018 Super User Posted March 11, 2018 I'm not sure what the curado 200 actually feels like in hand but I have a tatula HD200 on my fury 795 and it doesn't feel too small. Also the handle length is not long by swimbait rod standards. I bought it partially for that reason. Quote

You'd be fine with the Curado. I use a regular Tatula 100, or sometimes a Tatula HD on my 795 and both feel fine. I've actually found that larger reels aren't all that comfortable on the 795 Quote
Jmp_37 Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 So you guys are talking about the Dobyns fury 7’9” rod correct? Is it full or split grip? Quote
Robert Riley Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Full grip. The Dobyns is the way to go. Just bought a FR806sb for toothy critters and a rigs. The lighter 795sb will be great for your applications. Quote
