Super User FryDog62 Posted March 8, 2018 Super User Posted March 8, 2018 I noticed the new Orochi Braillist and read the specs/description. Am looking for a rod to drag 3/4oz SK Jointed Structure Heads/trailer or similar... along the bottom over gravel rock piles in 18-24 fow. Wondering if this rod would work well for this application - I tend to hesitate to buy something new and unknown, although the Orochi model has been around. Or, wondering what it might compare to? kschultz76 Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 It’s a brand new model of a new generation of the Orochi XX rods. About the only hands on info out there on them is the preview on TackleTour. Will be awhile before anyone has the hands on experience to answer your question unfortunately. Quote

Not enough rod for 3/4oz plus trailer. You’re pushing 1oz plus at that point. Perfect Pitch would be what you want. The og PP is an amazing rod. If they improved on it as claimed then it should make one sweet stick. Quote

Have also thought of maybe buying 2 rods - one Braillist for 1/2 oz and a Perfect Pitch for heavier. A lot of money though... what do you know about the Levante Perfect Pitch and would it be a big step down from the Orochi version? Quote
Logan S Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 I love the original EMTF for 3/8 to 1/2 oz swingheads, so I'm interested in seeing how the Braillist turns out....But I think you'll want at least an F6 in MB rods to handle anything 3/4. The swinghead technique is more similar to cranking than flipping/pitching and it's generally done in open water, so you can get away with less powerful rods for the head weights. IE, I wouldn't use an EMTF for flipping or pitching 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs...But its darn near perfect for the same weight swingheads. I still think 3/4 will overpower the F5.5 Braillist though. The Perfect Pitch would do it well, although I prefer a longer rod for this technique. I've used it for heavier swingheads and it does fine, but I usually throw them on an X4 711 instead. In the current MB lineup, the Destroyer Valdiva looks like the best fit...But I haven't used it so I can't say for sure, it looks good on paper though. Quote

Any opinion on Perfect Pitch in the Levante lineup? Subtle or big difference to Orochi? Quote

I think the old pp has a lot higher rating and i was looking at the new one. Says 1.2 oz and i thought the old had a 2oz top end. Is it a weaker rod??? Wish companies used CCS data to help us compare... Quote

I haven't used the Levante Perfect Pitch to compare to the XX version...But I have the Levante Shakeyhead and the XX Shakeyhead. There is a very noticeable difference and the XX is definitely worth the price to upgrade. The Levante is a nice rod on it's own, but you can't really compare it to the XX. It doesn't blow you away when compared to other rods in it's price range like the XX does. It just doesn't really stand out from it's competitors. I'm not planning on getting rid of mine, but I also don't plan on adding any more. Having said that, the current sale price of $170 does make them more attractive. 1 Quote

The hyuga has received good feedback and would be a step up from the levante. 1 hour ago, Angry John said: I think the old pp has a lot higher rating and i was looking at the new one. That rod had a great tip section and made it feel less powerful than it was. That’s why it gets such high praise because of its tip. I actually sold my f6 tour versatile because it felt more stout than the perfect pitch and didn’t seem to load up as well. 2oz may of been a little generous but I’ve pitched 1.25oz tungsten/hook/bait with it and that is at least 1.5oz total weight. 1 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted March 10, 2018 Super User Posted March 10, 2018 I don't really have a need for a new perfect pitch, but I'm so dang curious about this amazing tip everyone seems to talk about that I think I'll be forced to pick one up if the reviews are as positive as they were for the old model. Typically a Medium Heavy/Fast action something 7-7’5 is what you’re looking for. Quote
Scott804 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Sounds like a job for the Perfect Pitch to me. The Brailist really maxes out at 1/2oz+trailer imo.
