Bass raider vs sea nymph

New to the forum so I hope this has not already been discussed. I had a 10e bass raider pvc boat my son and I maxed out the weight limit with gear. It sat very low in the water and had very little room. I recently sold it and purchased a old sea nymph aluminum boat. 13’6 x36 I believe. Bass raider was 515lbs limit. The sea nymph,which I assumed to be higher capacity is only 475lbs capacity. I’m 6’1 260lbs my son is 6’2 240lbs. Is there any way to add to the capacity of the boat or should I just scrap my project and wait till I can afford a bigger boat?  Does this seem right? The weight capacity seems really low for a boat this size. Thank in advance for any input.

There isn't really anything you can do to increase capacity.  What does the US Coast Guard plaque say is maximum?  That seems low for a 13' boat.

I will have to check it again but I believe it listed the max at 475lbs

i thought it was really low also. I bought the boat with the assumption that It would hold more weight than that.

You might want to test drive it, and see.  You may worrying about something that isn't a problem.  That might be a real conservative weight cap.  My 15' Sea Nymph was rated at something north of 800 lbs.

 

I actually bet that spec is for "person capacity" not total weight capacity.  Total includes the motor,  full gas tank, and gear.

max capacity with motor,gear is 425lbs. That seems way to low for a 13 ft boat

generally speaking, sea nymph makes a good boat, but two guys as big as y’all are may need to think about a little longer and alot wider model. stay safe out there. ?

Just upgraded from a 12 foot sea nymph,fished from it for years with three guys,motor and all our gear.Very stable boat especially with some weight in it.on many occasions had it loaded with around 400 pounds of cockles and two people with no problems.

Weight loads are determined by some complex formula.  For example, my 16 foot, square stern Old Town canoe with a 40 inch beam has a load capacity of four persons or 665 pounds.  My 20 foot plus Nitro Z-8 with an eight foot beam has a load capacity of four persons or 1000 pounds.  My canoe has seating for three.  The Nitro can seat four.  Go figure.
