5by3 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Looking into throwing more football jigs this year. What rods, reels, and line are you throwing yours on? Quote
bigturtle Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I throw footballs 1/2-3/4oz, and I use a 7' H/MF rod with 30lb braid and 14lb mono leader paired with a 7:1 reel Quote
CroakHunter Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 7Ft medium heavy (fishes like a heavy with a soft tip) 50Lb braid to 17Lb copoly leader. 7:1 gear ratio reel. Have fished them on everything from a 6:1 all the way to an 8:1 and although the reel is the least important part of football jigs, I think a 7:1 works best for me. Quote

I fish football and my custom jigs horizontal by casting and retrieving along the bottom in sparse cover with rocky or cly structure. Search Old School Horizontal Jigging. The 6 years I use Daiwa Tatula 8.1:1 reel, custom ALX jig & worm rods, 6'10", 5 $ 6 power and Sunline 12 lb Sniper or Armilo Deifer 11 lb Nylon line with jigs 3/8 to 3/4 oz. Tom Quote

junyer357 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Avid 7mhf with 7:1 tatula. Currently trying 40# braid with 20# flouro leader, but not sold on it yet. Normally i just use straight 20# flouro. May still go back to that. Quote
ZebcoZak Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I toss 100% 1/2 oz football heads with a 7'1" MH X-fast Kistler Helium3. 15lb Tatsu flouro and a Pflueger Patriarch. Insanely sensative. I almost never throw them anywhere but points and flats where I want to drag them across bottom. I cast them a mile with this set up and drag them back feeling every pebble on the bottom. One of my favorite ways to catch them. Quote
