I frog in some serious slop and have never felt the need to go above 40lb and have confidently used 30.

I was using 30 last summer but I did have some snaps on casting from the braid digging in (which I've written a guide on how to prevent) and I lost what must have been a 10+ lb snakehead after some #30 snapped - it had a wire leader at the end of it, so I don't think the snakehead's teeth on the line was an issue.  It is nice to know that you feel comfortable with lower test, as that makes me feel better about going with 50 over 65.

Either will do fine to be honest, but 50 casts further.

That makes sense.. Do you feel the 50 doesn't hold up for punching as well with you really getting in there on a punch, or did you just go with 65 because it made sense to?   Have you compared both lines in both conditions?

I have used both, but given the waters I fish in down here especially Big O, I just don't feel confident enough in anything less.

2 boaters I was with at 2 BFL's last year won't use anything less than 80# and I know there are more.

Performance wise the 15# difference between the 50 and 65 is no big deal given what you're useing it for.

Yes, you may may get a few more yards throwing a frog with the 50# but when punching it's a non issue.

Its hand to hand combat 5ft from the boat.

I want every and all advantage perceived or not for every flip.

What are the biggest differences for you between the two -  Does 50 cast noticeably better than 65 and does 50 seem to break easier than 65?  If I can't notice much of a difference in casting with 65, might as well go with the stronger line.

I have never broken 50, tbh I can't tell much difference. If you are one to lock down your drag 65 might dig in less.

I have broken off on bigger fish over 5 or 6 pounds a couple times with 50. Fifty just casts like a rocket though, but you have to retie and be careful. If fish over 5 or 6 pounds are common, rather than just being a nice bass like where I'm from (Colorado), go with 65. Heavier frogs will still fly far enough.

You are worrying about a non issue.  Fish what you have.

I have neither ;)

I use 50# for buzz frogs and hollow body frogs.

I've gone ahead and ordered #50 PP thanks to everyone's suggestions and thoughts.  Definitely some good things to consider in this thread!  I do want to be able to cast a good distance with these frogs especially as the slop can get pretty wide where I fish, so that was my main deciding factor.  If I was only making short casts, I would have likely gone with 65.
