Recently purchased two brand new curado 70 reels. Spooled both with line today and they cast like a dream. However, they sound kind of noisy when i reel, almost like a grinding or rubbing sound.l when the spool turns.  I noticed that the sound occurred only after I put line on the reels, and both reels make the noise. Does not seem to affect the performance of the reels, but is this normal?

If they are BOTH making a faint noise, there might be nothing wrong. What type of line did you spool it with?

I own four of these now and they are all fairly quiet. They aren't velvet smooth but quiet enough. One of mine , that has had the most use, started making a course plasticky grinding noise when reeling after 7 months of hard use. There was no mistaking it. I removed the side plate and spool and lightly oiled/wiped down the spool bearings along with the break drum and they got quiet again.

If you think there is a legit problem or pronounced noise, post a vid and someone here would able to give you more accurate info.

Try oiling the drum, follow the instructions that came with the box.

How recent did you purchase them? How often are they being used? Do you regularly maintenance them? Given both reels are making the same noise. It's unlikely both are defective. I recommend cleaning the reel and oiling the reel. If the noise continues, I would contact Shimano customer service or a reel tech.

Oiling them up will remove the noise. There is a catch though. You can oil bearings such as the boca orange seals but its going to reduce your casting distance while removing the noise.

Try to loose the tension knob and see if that grinding noise goes away. If this the case nothing to worry about.

They are both brand new. I wouldn’t say they are grinding hard, but they make more noise than I thought they should have. I will try to oil the break drum and see if it solves anything. If I recall correctly, I think I’ve heard Shimano reels are notorious for coming packed dry and need some lube right out of the box.
