Yesterday I came across a smoking deal on a couple of Dobyns Rods that are at a local tackle store that is going out of business. I have a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 reel that I plan on using for Shakey heads from 3/16 to 3/8oz., wacky rigged weightless 5” Senkos, and for drop shotting 6" Fat Roboworms with 3/16 to 3/8 oz. weights. I found a Dobyns Champion Series DC703 SF  which is a 7ft medium fast action rod that’s rated for 3/16 to 5/8 oz. lures at this store that was regularly priced at $249.99 but is being sold now for $89.00. I was wondering if this rod will work well with the Stradic Ci4 2500 for the lure weights and techniques I mentioned above? I also found a Dobyns Champion Extreme DX 704C  that's a 7ft. Heavy Fast action casting rod that's rated for 1/4 to 1oz. lure weights. It was regularly priced at $339.00 but now is $129.00. I have a Shimano Chronarch MGL I picked up on sale for $125.00 from the same store yesterday that I could put on the rod. I am wanting to throw 3/16 to 1/2 oz. Shakey Heads and Texas Rigs along with wacky rigged weightless 5" Senkos on this rod. I'm wondering if this rod will work for the those weights and techniques.(There is also a Dobyns Champion Extreme DX703C Medium Heavy Fast Casting Rod for the same price that's rated for 1/4 to 3/4 oz. lures if it would be better than the DX704C for my intended uses and techniques.) I've never used Dobyns Rods personally and I'm hoping some of you who have can share your thoughts on these three rods and if you think they will suit my needs. I look forward to hearing back from you guys and Thanks in advance for the advice, information, and assistance.

You found some gold! Buy them both and fish em like you stole em!

I have never seen either of those two rods sell for that kind of coin anywhere including used.

I think that spinning rod would fit the bill very nicely for those techniques.

For the casting rod, the 704 would do better for 3/8-1/2 oz + plastic, but the 703 would be much better for the wacky senkos.  You need to pick which technique you'll use more.  Or just buy both the 703 and the 704 :)

Thanks for the advice! Going to buy all three in the morning! I'm going to try throwing some 5" weightless Senkos and some Texas Rigs in 3/16 through 1/2oz. around the yard on both the Dobyns Champion Extreme DX 703C and the DX 704C. Whichever I like the best I will keep and if anyone here is interested in getting the other I will sell it to someone on the forum here for the price I bought it for, $129.00. I'll just get a list of whoever is interested and do a random computer generated number drawing for it so everyone who wishes to buy it has a fair and equal chance.

I would buy both of those rods at that price. That's too good to pass up.

For the Stradic CI4+ 2500, you would ideally want either the 702SF or the 703SF, the 703SF if you prefer shaky heads and the 702SF if you prefer a drop shot. But at that price I would spool up 8lb line and run a slightly heavier drop shot (could also do braid to leader, but I'd likely almost always use a 8lb leader).

Do yourself a favor and just keep both of the poles. Even after selling them for what you paid for you won't find a rod of that quality for $129

Pm sent if you don't keep them all. Been looking for a dobyns rod. Just bought a new one for flipping and looking to get another to start switching out all my poles to dobyns

When you find a deal like that you buy the rods and figure out the technical stuff later.

Lol exactly.  Buy now, figure out the uses later.    That is a steal!  But yes, the 703sf should work great for your intended purposes.  Dobyns' tend to be pretty well balanced but with a lighter reel like Stradic ci4 it will be just a hair tip heavy and balance just above the reel seat threads at the very base of the rod.   I've got the same reel on a Sierra 692sf and am really happy with it.  Wish I'd stumbled on this sale too though!

Yup. And if you don't like them make yourself some money!
