Whats the difference? Comparing 69 to 610 rods

Im struggling with just how many rods are offered in similar size/action power. I have  a St criox LTB 610MLXF. I used it a few times for drop shot but nothing else. Could I use this rod for jigging too? Ive havent heard of doing that, but its pretty similar to the Avid 69 MLXF that seems very popular for drop shot, as well as jigging. Is the 69 more versatile for some reason? I have 2 of the 6'3"s as well, and trying to consolidate some rods so Im not taking so many.

 

I keep looking at the 66MLF and 68 MLF rods just because they seem like they would be more versatile than what I have.

My current setups are: all spinning 

LTW 6'3" MLXF and MXF

Avid X 68 MXF

LTB 610 MLXF

ELite Tech 70MF

You're way over thinking this. Any of those rods will fish bottom baits within their weight range well in addition to jerk baits imo

Ive considered that, but its never a clear answer after talking w their customer service. I guess I dont see why there is a 69 and 610 option, unless its just to sell more rods.

It could be marketing or more likely a manufacturing convenience or concern of some kind. An inch one way or another in almost seven feet is of little to no consequence. The differences in material, components and grip are all that matter

Like DVT said you’re overthinking this. Your 6’10” LTB MLXF is for all intents and purposes the same rod built for the same purpose as the 6’9” MLXF Avid version, but you’re LTB is a better grade of graphite and better guides. The length difference in design likely is a result of the difference in materials used, grip type/length, and balance.

When Gary Dobyns came out with presentation specific bass rods I thought who would buy them. Today we have bass pondering the difference between 2 functionally identicle rods, if they should use it for drop shot or shake jigs.....amazing!

The difference is an inch. If the power and the action and the price is the same, buy whichever is cheaper. You won't notice the difference.

You already have what I believe you need. I would take your LTB 619 MLTXF and throw small lightweight baits such as drop shots, small baits like Ned rigs, a light 1/8 jig head and twin tail bait like a beetle spin body for smallies, even small tubes.

The Avid X 6'8" mxf would get my 5 inch Kalin grubs on a BPS perfect finesse worm hook ( look that up- they account for a lot of bass for me and my wife) regular tubes with heavier jigs heads, even like a stupid tube. I would throw things like Keitech and Reaction Innovation Skinny Dippers on light weigh ( 1/16, 1/8, 1/4) belly weighted swimbait hooks.

This would be my all around spinning rod. I use my medium action spinning rod for fishing those baits as well as things like shakey head jigs with either a straight tailed worm or a creature bait like a Megabug. I happen to like the Megastrike Shake2 jig heads for both baits. Sencos would be fished on this rod as well.

610 is the longest rod they tend to make within the drop shot category(not set in stone but you see a lot of drop shot rods G Loomis is one of them), finesse category. You will see these in medium light mostly and some mediums. If you make a medium light blank over 6 foot 10 you can’t get the same action in the longer rod The blank will give too much in a medium light.  shorter rod gives you more sensitivity ( less rod). So the difference in an inch or two just happens to deal with making it more sensitive.
