I've narrowed my first fly combo down to the Wild Water 5/6 9’ Rod Fly Fishing Complete Starter Package, Wild Water Deluxe 5/6 9’ Rod Fly Fishing Complete Starter Package, and New Piscifun Fly Fishing Complete 5/6 Fly Fishing Rod and Reel Combos Starter Package fly fishing kit for beginners. Out of these options only, which should I go for? By no means am I promoting these products.

Line is way more important than the rod and reel.  Look at and learn the specifics first.

I haven't met anyone who's been happy with any of those combos, but that might just be because of the Mandela effect, or the flat earth...

I know it's exciting to pick out and buy new fishing tackle, but I'd really recommend hooking up with an accomplished fly fisherman to get some information, recommendations and pointers.  I'd guess that 75% of folks getting into fly fishing give up soon after trying.  It's just not intuitive like other types of fishing and it REALLY helps to get some help from an experienced fly fisherman.  

 

Beginners gear is more forgiving for casting, but you'll soon grow out of it.  You might be able to find someone who will give or loan you a good set-up.  Look in your area for fly fishing or fly tying clubs/groups and make contact....

All three choices have great reviews on Amazon, I think any would be fine, just pick which one your drawn to.

First fly fishing combo? Ok, that is great but what do you want to do with it? Like any other rod/reel decision it boils down to what type of flys you are using and what type of fish you are targeting? This is a bass forum so I assume bass? I target mainly panfish with mine but I also have a more beefier setup for bass/pike. The pan fish and trout rods are usually 4-6 weight rigs while the bass rigs will usually be 7-9. Are you wanting to fish little foam spyders, popping bugs, and dry flys or do plan on using bigger streamers, nymps, big hair flys and poppers? All this will play a part in what you should select. I would not toss a large Dahlberg popping frog a 5/6 weight fly rod nor would I toss a 130 sized whopper plopper on a ML spinning rig.

I grew up fly fishing, my brother is a very accomplished guide in Vermont and New Zealand.  I have a lot of experience in this realm.  Kickerfish has outlined step 1...  what a you going to do?  From there figure out a budget, mind you, line is incredibly important so don't cheap out.  Rod is second most important, reel is least.  I personally like Redington/Rio/Sage products, tons of guys like tfo too.  Join bass on the fly on fb too.

I've spent years fly fishing, some for bass, and in my opinion the best all round for bass would be a 7 weight. Its heavy enough to throw bass bugs, poppers, even into the wind, yet lite enough to use all day. I've caught a crap load of 2-6 lb stripers on a 7 weight and it was a ton of fun.

Also I strongly suggest you have some one help you get into fly casting. It will make a big difference.
