I'm wanting to cash in on my credit card rewards points. Should I choose a gift card from Cabelas or Bass pro shop? Also what should I get? Should I go crazy on lures?  Should I get some style specific rods or reels? I have about 10 rods and reels already. Or should I get what every kid hates for Christmas? Clothes I'm 31 and still dont like getting them for christmas. Or should I get something for my boat? Or should I put it towards a Kayak? I want one but I already have a boat and my finance might kill me it its not a 2 seater.

I would visit both stores, if that is an option, and check out the sales.

Lately at both stores, if things are not on sale they are expensive.

Those are hard questions to answer,

what do you need the most??

What do you do the most?

One tthing for sure.. forget the dang clothiers man! ?

Other than useing gift cards I've been staying away from BPS as much as I am.

Getting way too expensive for even the minor little things.

I have really gotten into bass fishing this past year so I'm still fairly new. The lake I fish has both spotted and largemouth bass. I've only caught a hand full of fish there and getting skunked often. Last year I went fishing about 8 times and caught only one small one but hooked and lost about three getting them to the boat. This year I've gone three times and caught fish 2 out of three times so I'm getting better. Planing before I go has helped a lot with my navionics.

BPS has some decent sales going on right now. Cabelas should have some sales coming before long. I usually wait on decent sales or coupon before spending my gift cards or points (just more bang for the buck).

So since these are the same company now you can use gift cards to either at both.  Winner winner....

You said it.  If you could get a straight visa/MasterCard, I'd rather give it to TW or @Siebert Outdoors

I believe I’d wait till I needed something, or at least had a good idea of what I wanted myself. I wouldn’t waste it on what somebody else wants you to have.

If neither is option I'd get a visa gift card and buy stuff from places like TW or other online shops. Most times that I go to BPS or Cabelas with the intent of buying a specific item I leave dissapointed, either because I couldn't find it or because it was marked up compared to TW.

If you're going to cash out points for a gift card my choice would be Cabelas, but given what the gang at my local Cabelas says, you might want to do it pretty soon before they get completely consumed by BPS.

News from the Cabelas "inner circle" is there will be no more coupons very soon.

I would never make a suggestion about what to buy with that gift card but you might want to look at items in the Bargain Cave (cabela)  because they are discontinuing a ton of stuff due to the merger.

Bassela's....going forward together and straight off a cliff!

Bps just finished their best sale of the year. I have 6 bps rod and reel combos of various price points. Very satisfied with all of them. My brother bought a rod from Cabela’s and it snapped on First cast. My neighbor also had disappointing results with Cabela’s rod. Bps lure prices are high for any other brands besides their own bps label. My neighbor has a Bps kayak and it’s affordable and well designed. So :

rod and reels - bps

lures - cabelas

kayak - bps

You can use BPS gift cards at Cabelas and Cabelas at BPS. Doesn't matter which you get.

I only go to bps once a year and that is during the spring fishing classic which just ended in NH.     You can get a good deal on rods and reels by taking advantage of the trade in and by using the bass pro credit card.   As for buying tackle good luck.  As mentioned they never have the size or color I'm looking for.  Most of their fishing gear is bps brand or strike king.    I don't have a cabelas close enough to visit often but I want to buy one of their coolers.  I hear great things and they go on sale often.

Also.  Don't buy a boat/kayak from either one.   So many other places to go and get a better deal.

Cabelas has better clothes and bass pro has better selection of fishing lures and fishing equipment in general. As mentioned before I would get a visa card and wait for sales on TW as they have them several times a year during certain holidays

Hard to say, I’ve purchased stuff for a good couple of decades, so far from Cabela’s I’ve only purchased a handful of in-line spinners and 4 TDZ reels when they went on clearance, on the other hand, most my stuff came from BPS ( there was no TW on-line 25 years ago ).

told my wife, no more BPS gift cards for me after this year. i even waited til their current online sale to try to get my bulk hooks and plastics but they’re not offered at the sale price this year. i can get them at a better price elsewhere. i will spend my gift card on a pair of work boots this time around and then bid farewell to BPS from this point forward unless things change with them. ?

Bass pro has a spring fishing classic going on now, with tons of sales. I would go with bass pro because of the sale, but the sale starts and ends depending on which store you go to, so if you choose bass pro make sure that your shop has a sale going on now. Otherwise, there really is no difference between cabelas and bass pro

BPS Spring Classic ended this past Sunday.

Again, it doesn't matter if you get a Cabela's gift card or a Bass Pro gift card.  They work at both since they are the same company now.

Just received an email from Cabela's. It looks like their version of the BPS spring sale starts March 10th thru the 28th

If you have everything already I would splurge for a nice small 2-4 seater pond prowler or jon boat. About $500 and you can fish for shorter stints without having to take the trailer and put in gas and take off and on the cover and pull out the seats and and and. Simple boat, easy fish, more time for fun.

I agree that I'd wait til I actually needed/wanted something specific.  Having said that I've become a much bigger cabelas fan and less of a basspro one in the last few years. Basspro prices seem to be so inflated. Kinda hated to see them buy cabelas but it is what it is. Both have some nice gear if you can wait on the sales!
