Super User JustJames Posted March 3, 2018 Super User Posted March 3, 2018 you might not be happy with scorpion 70 for real BFS. It can handle light lure but I would go anything 1/8 or lower. 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 3, 2018 Super User Posted March 3, 2018 The Scorpion 70 isn't a true JDM reel because it's made in Malaysia and it's not a true BFS reel either. Websites to use - Japan Lure Shop and Japan Tackle. 1 1 Quote

Then I don’t see a point in getting a scorpion over a curado 70 I think I’m changing my mind on going bfs I just want something for weightless plastics but was wanting jdm? Is 10 to 12 pound line to heavy for a bfs reel? Quote

Casting things in the 4 gram and below range, like a crappie jig. For trusted sites - japan lure shop digitaka japan tackle 2 Quote
captnstabn Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 Digitaka and japanlureshop are my gotos. Digital is almost always cheaper because of the free shipping. Both were at my house in under a week. 1 Quote

Oh there are differences between curado and scorpion, spool bearing which is reg bearing and Japan AR bearing which is 16 bucks a pop from shimano website. Scorpion used to made in Japan, only this new version not sure about scorpion BFS and D.C, but those are still JDM (Japan domestic market) 1 1 Quote

The Scorpion 70 is sold and marketed in Japan, there for this is a "Japanese Domestic Market" reel. 3 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 19, 2020 Super User Posted October 19, 2020 Asian Portal Fishing has been good so far. Ordered two reels from them. Took about 2 weeks. Their prices are somewhat better on ebay. https://tr.asian-portal.shop Quote

I'm not a Shimano guy so I can't tell you much more than that and to agree with what some others have said. The Scorpion 70 is not a BFS reel. Quote
Big Hands Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 I bought a reel that was a JDM model from ebay . . . . in Croatia. Bought it on a Friday at noon and it was at my door mid-afternoon on Monday for a $15 shipping fee. Unbelievable, but true. Quote
cheezyridr Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 my jdm bfs is my favorite reel. it's a daiwa sv lite i got it from tackle warehouse back in june, but it's still available from digitaka right now Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Amazon Japan frequently has nice deals and they ship fast. I received every one of my reels from there within 5 days. I paid $181 shipped for my Alphas CT SV 6.3, $190 for my Alphas CT SV 7.2, and $170 for my Revo ALC-BF7. All three reels were priced well below the other main JDM sites, even when factoring in the cost of shipping. Quote
Espo66 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Is there a list or chart somewhere that details what JDM model = what US model and/or the differences? Quote
