Super User tcbass Posted March 2, 2018 Super User Posted March 2, 2018 They say that imitation is the imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The new Booyah Toad Runner appears to be a nearly identical copy of the Teckel Sprinker Frog, the only difference being the frog has rubber skirt legs in addition to the paddle tail. I made some Homemade Teckel Sprinker Frogs from many frogs before Teckel Sprinker frogs became available and had the best luck with a Spro Bronzeye, VMC 3 way swivel size #4, and an original Teckel Sprinker Frog Tail. We caught a lot of fish with it last year, more than I've ever caught with regular hollow body frogs. The 2nd best frog was the Booyah Homemade Teckel frog. I liked the Spro because it really caught a lot of fish, didn't fill up with water, and didn't have to be squeezed to get water out. I finally got some Teckel Sprinker Frogs when they became available and was really disappointed in them. The fish blew up on them but I only caught 1 and it was a northern. The rest just seemed to throw it into the air. This is after I opened up the hooks quite a bit. The Teckel frog is also expensive. Now I see that Booyah has their own version of the Teckel Sprinker Frog and it is only $9.99. Not super cheap but not too expensive for a frog. So, if this one works, rather than make my own, I'd just buy these. And Booyah is known for making a good, durable frog for a fair price. Has anyone tried them? https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/booyah-toadrunner-soft-bait-18byhutdrnnrlprdflur/18byhutdrnnrlprdflur Quote
Smallieseeker Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Haven’t tried them yet but at only 10 dollars I think they would be worth trying out. I honestly think these will be better then the teckel. I saw a video where you can adjust the tail to create subtle changes in the sound and splash. I have plans to pick some up on my next order. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted March 2, 2018 Super User Posted March 2, 2018 I'm a sucker for a good pun, so I'll buy one just based on the name alone. 1 Quote
ratherbfishin1 Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I want one really bad now, the add keeps coming up on top of my screen making it hard to ignore the bait monkey. 1 Quote
MichaelJ7 Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I plan on giving it a try. I just received my fist teckel frog and was disappointed the moment I opened the package. I don’t know that it will ever hit the water. I’d like to see the booyah’s in person though. I would imagine they will be of better quality. Quote

I’ve always been a KVD Sexy Frog guy and have no serious complaints but I think I’m getting ready to invest in some pad crashers to compare the two. 1 Quote

I still like the Spro Bronzeye Frog for Homemade Teckel Frogs....I'd have to fish the Booyah more to see if it doesn't take on water. Quote

Spro makes a great frog for sure. I just prefer the softer bodied frogs like the KVD’s. It may just be in my head but hookup ratios seemed to go up for me when I switched. Who knows... Quote

I was really impressed. 1 Quote
5by3 Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 TC bass would you mind posting a picture of your homemade spro frogs? I’d like to try my own. The Teckel frogs aren’t awful imo, but they’re a bit pricy for modest durability and hookup rate. That being said, it’s caught some good ones for me... Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 2, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2018 They just came out the last week or two and with probably half the country still having hard water, I seriously doubt anyone has done more than make a cast with one. The Booyah is supposed to have an adjustable tail to change the sound it makes. I've seen videos where you can clearly hear that it does make different sounds based on the settings of the tail. I love Booyah frogs and plan on owning some. The Sprinker was a very successful bait for me but I held off using them a ton because they were so hard to get. Won't be an issue with these frogs I'm sure. Quote

snake95 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 @tcbass from the moment I first heard of this, I keep checking this thread daily and ask "when the heck is TCbass going to post something on this frog??" Thanks for coming through for me! (I haven't tried it yet but as you mentioned noticed the legs are a key difference) 1 1 Quote

Otherwise I’ll have to keep making my own. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 Looks like a Teckel Sprinker knock off to me. Anyone have one yet? Is it better/worse than a Sprinker? Quote
georgeyew Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 It doesn't just look like a knock off....it is a knock off. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 5, 2018 Super User Posted March 5, 2018 It's supposed to be an upgrade, at a lower cost. It has a tunable boot, and short legs, and is 1.5 inches linger. If the hook up ratio is like that of the Pad Crasher, then I think they have a winner. Do not start redundant threads. I merged them this time. Next time, I simply delete. Quote
bobbyg Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I just got one in the mail! I opened it up and am very excited to see how it does on the water. A few observations though. . . First, it comes with an extra tail. Wasn't expecting that, but thought that was awesome! Second, The tail is very pliable, don't know how to judge if that is a good thing, or bad, as it seems very damageable. Third, it is a little more "stout" than the Padcrasher. Hooks have a molded in little indent where they live on the body of the frog. 1 Quote

These are cheaper than Spro’s, so if these work I’ll save a lot of money on using this instead of buying a Spro Bronzeye and Teckel Sprinker Tails. Quote
MichaelJ7 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I ordered one last night. Just waiting on it to come in the mail now. Quote
