New reel....Noisy

Picked up a lews custom reel.... the white one with Winn grip knobs feels great with the super low profile frame.

 

But when I was playing around with I noticed it was making some noise not quite a grinding not quite a scraping sound it was a mixture of both I guess.

 

Any idea what's up with it. I was just gonna lube it up the worm gear does look a little dry now that I think about it but it sounds like it's the spool rubbing something

 

I don't know any ideas?

Can you exchange that one? I would do that if possible.

I could I guess. I got it from TW so I could send it back to them. But I've done that before and when they send exchanges/replacements back they send it USPS and everytime it takes literally 2 weeks to get to me and I can't track it. If I have to I will but I'd rather diagnose it and fix it... it's a pride thing I guess

Only lews reel I've ever had do it I have 2 tournament pro g reels quietest reels I own... I've got those, chronarch MGL's and Curado I's and K's, Tatula ct's

I played with one in store and it wasn’t smooth at all, felt like low quality bearings. 

Are the centrifugal brakes off?

Try a drop of oil in each bearing that is exposed, I know on my bb1 pro it had a little port that I could unscrew a little plate and apply grease to the main gear, see if yours has that and apply some grease. Great feature.

I had a Daiwa that made a sound kinda like the "sound of a baseball card hitting the spokes of a bike tire, but softer and a bit more metallic", which ended up being a bad pinion gear.  It would only make it when retieved under a litte load though.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna put some oil on the bearings and grease the gear via the lube port and see if that helps if it don't I'll be sending it back to TW for another

I put some oil on bearings and a little grease on gears seemed to work for a minute then got noisy again if not louder so I sent it back. If this new one is noisy also I'll send it back and just get a curado k to replace it

I purchased 2 Lews mach s300 rod/reel cobos this past weekend and both under light tow (a lure or a sanko) make a light grinding noise when reeling in. If I just reel with out any weight of a lure the noise is not present.

The terms "noise " and "sound" are often used interchangeably but the former connotes a problem where as the latter is likely normal. Which one you're experiencing I can't say from a distance, but I can confirm that a level of sound from most modern reels is to be expected especially once they loosen up.
