alphawolf Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Hello I have been recently looking for an offshore and inshore saltwater spinning rod (If Possible) but I can't seem to find one. I want to pair this rod with a Daiwa BG5000. I have a budget of $50 so nothing to fancy. Thanks Quote

bigbassin' Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 You'll need to be more specific about technique and species you plan on targeting. For example, you can handle most redfish on the flats with a bass rod. You take an overslot red and try to catch him from a pier, that bass rod will be underpowered just about every time, not to mention you're no longer concerned about casting distance, acuracy, fatigue, etc. since you'll be dropping bait straight down for the most part. Florida Cracker2 Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 I have a spinnfisher V 4500 on a Ugly Stik inshore select and it balances and feels great. It's $60. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted March 1, 2018 Super User Posted March 1, 2018 Take a look at the Penn Battle combos or just the Penn rods. Quote
PatrickKnight Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 The Calico Jack rods are really good for the price. Quote

ThatredneckguyJamie Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Inshore and Offshore are hard to fit into one rod, like bigbassin said, for most inshore fish a bass rod would work fine. That Daiwa is a good size versatile reel if you are only going to have one saltwater reel, but casting it all day is gonna wear you out if your using artificials. I like Ugly stik, Calico Jack is good too in that same price range 6' 6" medium heavy or even a 7' would cover a wide range of possibilities. May be a bit under powered for some, and a bit over powered for others...but a wide range of just right. Caught this one on an Ugly stik inshore select 7' Medium light, wouldn't have been my fish choice but since trout was our target species its what I had in my hand and it got the job done Quote
BrackishBassin Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 I use GX2s and the Ugly Stik Elites for saltwater stuff. Both work great. A MH GX2 with a 5000 on it should be able to handle pretty much anything you manage to hook up with. A little heavy for all day casting though. Especially with that large of a reel on it. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 1, 2018 Super User Posted March 1, 2018 With a 5000 size, and trying to do both off and in-shore you will probably want something in the 7' range and MH. The thing with saltwater is you never know what you'll catch and what size. Me? I do inshore and MH is my heaviest rod. I normally use ML and M spinning rods with 1000 size reels. I'm not expecting something too massive, though I could hook a big striper or red. Being in a kayak, I can move around. If I keep doing saltwater (which I plan to do), I plan to add a 3000 size at some point. Ugly Stiks are solid, especially if you plan on doing a lot of live bait fishing. You don't really need something super sensitive. 1 Quote
ThatredneckguyJamie Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 I have a 6500 spinfisher that is dedicated to one thing for inshore...bull reds in the fall, anything else is either a 2500 or 3000 1 Quote
