Been using Silver Thread fluro for years....great cost and quality.  Zero complaints

One advantage of using floro leader material over line is when fishing blades.  The stiffness of the leader material minimizes the blades tangling with the leader.

If you want to buy leader specific fluoro............rock on. If not, regular fluoro from a quality mfg. will be fine too.

I use "remnants" which are basically "free".  For spinning tackle, Tatsu #6; for baitcasting either

#12 Tatsu, AbrazX or #15 InvizX.

I have used InvisX, Berkley Trilene and Berkley Vanish as leaders because I had it, but for a dedicated leader you can't beat the Seaguar Blue Label. That stuff is invisible and it is strong and really expensive per yard, but fortunately we don't need 200+ yards of it at a time. Also I've had great luck with the knot strength especially in lower diameter test lines.

I do not recommend Vanish by the way, if a fish swims by it, it will start to fray and you have to pretty much retie every cast. I just was out of leader material and they had it at the local Walmart so I decided to try it.

+1

I used remnants for a long time.  I had a partial spool of Vanish (I call it Vanquished) left over from spooling a spinning reel and, after I found out how fragile the stuff is, I threw away the left-overs.

I still have a lot of AbrazX that I bought in filler spools to use for leader material, but dedicated leader materials are a better choice.

Tight lines,

Bob

I have used a lot of regular FC line for leaders, and it works OK, but if I want more confidence I use FC designed to be a leader.  One technique where I will not use line for leader is fishing blades.  The stiffness of the FC reduces tangling when twitching the blades.

Blue leader is exceptional, seaguar also make "premium" and I can't tell the difference
