I wonder why the k is selling so cheap on eBay you can get one for 140 new. kinda sucks because the resale value will be very low in a year or so I wonder why? Where did shimano go wrong with the k ? So much hype and it’s a good reel but really did the 2 or 3 extra ounces turn ppl off it did me some what? It’s almost 8 ounces spooled up really! Why did shimano go backwards. I only fish shimano baitcasters but that’s because I’m used to them i prefer them I can’t switch and I won’t! Maybe I’ll get one later But for now I’m skipping on the k.

They were $128 and most likely will be again. So yeah a used one will have to be around 80-90 even then I would rather buy new at $128. I dont sell my stuff so resale doesnt matter to me at all.

The thing is I feel the 70 is very very good the reason I returned my Chronarch MGL and bought another 70. The K just doesnt scream at me as being much better. The Bantam MGL might get the nod at that weight range for full Aluminum construction.

I guess nobody pay the full retail price anymore unless you shop at big box store. I'm not sure where those eBay shop got their reel but seem to be Asian's prices. Beside everything shimano try to complete with daiwa, the Ct type R price under 100 now.

They can sell them that cheap because they probably only cost about 40 or 50 bucks to actually make. And with ebay being strictly online they can eliminate a lot of middle men. I don't think They took a step backwards. Shimanos last a long time and with the green curado having almost a cult following, and the I series being a solid reel, not many people need or feel the need to upgrade is my guess. Also look at what they are competing with. A tatula ct can be had for around $95, and a tatula sv tw can be had for around $130. They have to be in the ball park range of those 2 reels or they will sell less. And in my opinion those w daiwa beat my curado I in every single category. Sorry for the long rant but I have also asked myself this same question.

All reels are like that. You can buy $299 Lew's reels for like $219, or a $199 Tatula SV for $135. That's just the nature of the reel business. Most brick and mortar stores need a higher markup, to keep the lights on, than some guy on ebay just shipping stuff out of his garage.

Or they get the item drop shipped directly from the company.  No garage needed.

i posted a question a while ago about the problems Ive read about with the K. I have the 200i series and wanted to upgrade to the enhanced SVS system (the white brakes) but I keep reading about broken thumb bars and dials too stiff the turn.

the display model at my local Bass Pro has a dial so stiff I couldn't even turn it. not a good sign.

yeah, im not buying that reel. come on Shimano.

I was thinking about ordering one. I handled the one in the  display case at DSG and it was making a clicking noise while reeling. Do you think this was from people handling it and screwing with the settings or is it a common problem?

Display reels in general at stores are usually pretty clunky from people messing with them.

You can get those prices at a DSG brick and mortar. They have a price match guarantee. As long as that Ebay price is for a brand new, not used reel they will match that price.

People were coming into their store, handling their reels to see if they like them. They would go home and order the reel online cheaper. Then wait for it to arrive in the mail. DSG was smart enough to combat that by price matching so they get the sale and the consumer doesn't have to wait for the item to arrive.

I have read quite often from people stating don't judge a reel by the display model. My take on this is if a reel can't hold up to the relatively light abuse it gets inside a store it can't handle the work it's going to get out in the elements.

That makes sense. I don't see how a reel can get damaged by being handled in a store. You would think that they would send the faulty one back to Shimano and put a good one on display. I wonder how many other people handled that reel and didn't buy one because of the noise?

People like to tinker with reels in the stores. They're not being used to just click the thumb bar, then reel. People remove cast control knobs, open hatches, etc. Any number of issues can arise when uneducated people are messing around with a display. It's not really a good measure of a reel's quality. I've been using my K since the day they got in stock and it hasn't even begun to let me down. If I didn't like my Tatula SV so much, I'd probably have only K's.

I  bought a Curado I a few months after it came out for less than $140 back in 2014.  Just saying Ebay prices have always beat retail.  For those who crave instant gratification comes full retail.  When the next Daiwa comes out check out Ebay a few months later and you will find the same 30% off retail all over the place.
