I mainly use casting reels, but would like to pickup a spinning reel to throw plastics. Looking for a solid spinning reel under $75. Any recommendations?

Welcome aboard!

Brands: Shimano, Daiwa, Pflueger. Those are who I'd

recommend in the $75 and under range.

I strongly suggest saving a little more and getting a daiwa bg.

I have been impressed with the okuma spinning reels. To me it's all about the drag on a spinning reel and this one is smooth as butter. It's my top pic for a spinning reel under 100$   http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Okuma_Trio_High_Speed_Spinning_Reel/descpage-OKHR.html

The high gear ratio is also a big plus.

I'd probably look around for a good deal on a Shimano Sahara. I don't think I've used anything in that price range that felt nearly as good. Maybe a used NASCI.

I'm a 100% Pflueger President fan. Best value-added dollar on the market. Well built, dependable and a great drag.

I picked up a Daiwa BG 2000 for $74 and some change on Amazon. The other reel that is worth considering is the Pflueger Supreme, which can be had right around the same price point on the right day.

If you can't find either for $75 and can't spend a little bit more, a Pflueger President should do nicely.

My vote is for the Kastking Sharky III

It features a water resistant frame and direct drive handle. These are things you find on reels way more expensive.

Good thing I purchased the Sharky II somewhere before Christmas when they had their Amazon deals going.  At the time of my purchase, I could have gotten a President along with the Sharky for what the OPs looking to spend.  So can't complain too much.

Those deals were great. Made an already affordable reel almost a steal.

As good as the Sharky II was the Sharky III blows it out of the water. I love the braid ready spool and fat bail wire. It's built on their flagship Kodiak reel's model. The only difference is the Sharky III is graphite instead of aluminum like the Kodiak.

I got mine for $30 after the Kastking inner circle discount they offered at the time of release.

Shimano Sahara.  They run a little over $75, but worth it imo.

Ditto.  Really just a dern good reel at any price.  A steal at the price they list it.

I bought my father the president (smallest one) for his ultralite rod and it is a great little reel. Smooth as my NASCI and Spinfisher V for less money.

Sahara 500FE here for my 5'6 UL/F on panfish, very happy with it and its quality, around $70 I think. The bigger Saharas probably not too much more I would guess.

I fish with a bunch of the Pflueger President in a 30 and 35 size. My wife has many of them too. She also has one Shimano Symetre- run from any deal on them, they are trouble!  She has one Pflueger Supreme and they cost just a little above your budget but well worth every penny.

The three I would suggest you choose from would be:

1- Pflueger President XT  It is available on Amazon for $79.99

2-Okuma RTX 30  another awesome reel I fish with,  It is available for $74.54 from Amazon

3- Daiwa Exceler LT  They run around $80.

TRIO-30S would be a good choice.
