PatrickKnight Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I have used owned a 7' ML Avid spinning rod in the past and was wondering from guys who have fished both is the LT worth the increased cost? The LT I am looking at it in the walleye series its the 7' ML. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 I don't think the difference is as noticable as going from a Premier to a LT. The Avid is a fantastic rod for the price. 1 Quote
Loomis13 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 I would say it depends on what you are going to do with it. For me, the difference is worth it when Im fishing walleye. I would agree that it is not as noticeable when going premier to avid as someone else said. With all that said, the legend elite is better than both to me. 1 Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted February 27, 2018 Super User Posted February 27, 2018 I dont think its worth the difference in price. I have ML Avid spinning & ML TLB casting. Dont think I would by another LTB rod unless its under $100 new. Save $$ and get Avid or splurge $$$ for Elite. 1 Quote
Poolshark Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 The build quality of the legend tournament is supposed to better. The biggest differences I feel between my avids and legend tournament are the slight differences in the taper of the blanks. i dont feel much difference in sensitivity or balance. 1 Quote

I might be in the minority on on this opinion. But honestly I'm very happy with my avids. They fish every bit as well as my ltbs. I wouldn't sweat it. The legend elite and the LT is a different animal but I think it's kind of a novelty with all the great rods out there right now. Not using one has had zero effect on catching fish and enjoying my equipment. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 27, 2018 Super User Posted February 27, 2018 I have a ton of Avids and several LTBs. Honestly, the difference isn't really much at all. I really have the LTB for certain things that I like a split grip. For moving baits - topwater, cranks, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, etc - I like full rear grip that the Avid features. 1 Quote
WI_Angler1989 Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 I have both and fish both a LOT. I think that I would have to agree with everyone else. Sensitivity wise, you aren't gonna get a huge leap from the Avid to the LTB. I will say that it's a different kind of feeling however. It's hard to explain until you feel similar strikes with both rods though. My Avids have a sharp feeling on a hit, where as the LTB feels more solid. All in all, they're both very sensitive and feel really nice to use. The LTB does have a few bells and whistles that the Avids don't: FRS resin, ART reinforcement. They're advertised as helping the durability quite a but, and preventing the blank from "ovaling" on a big hookset. It comes down to what you want on the end! They're both great rods and very sensitive. One just has more St Croix tech. 1 Quote

punch Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 I have some avid x's and some LTB's and the only thing I don't like is how much more tip heavy the LTB's are. The Avid's feel way more balanced. The LTB's blanks are VERY top heavy. It's kinda weird when you hold LTB's with other high end/mid range rods. I don't get why they are so tip heavy. 1 1 Quote

Are you looking online or can you go somewhere to get your hands on one? I've handled that same rod recently and thought it felt pretty nice. The lighter power makes it a bit less tip heavy than the series tends to be. 1 Quote

None of my local shops carry anything above the Avid line. I will be putting a Ci4 2500 on it. Quote

The Ci4+ is a super light reel too. It may accentuate the tip heaviness, but I dont have any personal experience with it. Quote

I do have a 3000 FK I could put on there. Then throw the Ci4 on my light jig rod. Quote

The guides are huge on my ML LTB they dont need to be that big. My MH7'6" rod guides arent as big and they arent micro either. 1 Quote
