riverbasser Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Sure wish I had more time on the water, with work and a new baby its getting less and less. About 3 Saturdays a month to be exact. Now I do spend 10hrs per trip but I sure do miss my "pets" in between How often and for what length of time do you fish on average? Quote
Super User Gundog Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 In the summer its mostly on the weekends and with my bad back I may only go out for 2-3 hours. In the spring I hit the river any time I can. Fall I have to make time to fish. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 So: 10 hours per day, 3 days a month, assuming 12 months, is 10 x 3 x 12 = 360 hours per year... which is more than twice what I can manage. I do between 30 and 40 short kayak trips from May through September, lasting 3-4 hours each, and an occasional hour or two shore fishing here and there. October through April, work and the seasons conspire to keep me away from the water most of the time. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 I fish about every other sat. for 4-5 hours. I try to go more in the spring and fall , which would add another trip or two in a month. But I will get in half an hour or so more often out back, and occasionally between work stops. Also will go saltwater fishing once every 6 weeks or so. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 Never enough. But I will retire in a little more than a year and then it's game on!! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 I usually make it out on the water sometime over the weekend. The trip may last from 5 hours to 12 hours depending on what is going on with work and family. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 Now that weather is getting better hope to take the grandkids...but these days will be shorter than when I'm out by myself or fishing a small tourney. Like to be on water to see the sunrise and the sunset....body telling me different though sometimes. Quote
Waterjohn Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I'm retired, last year I caught fish on 182 trips. Most trips are 3-4 hours, some 1-1 1/2 hour two or three times a day. Quote
Troy85 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I go just about every Saturday, most of the time I'll stay out for at least 7-8 hours. Once the time changes and Wednesday evening tournaments start up, I'll fish those as well. Its never enough though, for everyday I'm not fishing all me and my brother do is text each other about where we are fishing on the next upcoming Saturday Quote
Pro Logcatcher Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 It really varies. I can go from 20+ hours a week to zero depending on what I have to do that week. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 Kayak fishing is mostly on the weekends for me weather permitting. 3-6 hours trips. Weekends are busy times on the waters around me. When I take an occasional day off during the week to fish it is amazing to see the difference in boat traffic. I make weekday trips to my local pond after dinner some nights in the spring and summer. Those are quick *** hour sessions. I will do that once or twice a week. Quote
DubyaDee Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I have 2 kids under 4 and my time is limited on the water. In the spring and fall I take a week long trip. Spring and fall is when I'll fish every other week, in the summer I only get out about once a month, maybe twice if we're not busy. When I do get out it's usually from 5-noon. I love fishing, but I love spending time with the family more. Family, fishing, work, it's all tough to balance out. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 I don't have kids, thanks god but do have one needy wife LOL. I work 6 days a week so most of my weekend(Sunday) I'll stay home with the wife. What do I have left? A few hours here and there each day. Another reason I work night shift so I have time to fish during the day. No complain here though since my wife is the one who get us to live in Canyon Lake where I have all the convenient for bass fishing. Quote
Backroad Angler Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I'm a college student/ working a entry level job rn lol. I try and get out on the water every monday and friday, for at least 2-3 hours if I'm lucky. 12 minutes ago, JustJames said: I don't have kids, thanks god but do have one needy wife LOL. When you said canyon lake, I have a canyon lake about 30 minutes away from me but I live in Texas lol. Did'nt know they had one in cali, neato. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 I try to fish once a week and sometimes twice a week for usually 5 to 9 hours. I am retired so all my fishing is done through the week. I don't have to fight the weekend crowd anymore. I don't get anywhere near the water on holidays. Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 Congratulations on the new addition to your family riverbasser. As a young young father, I remember fishing less but appreciating the opportunities more. Now that I’m fortunate enough to be retired, I try to fish at least once a week. Quote
