So I am giving these a go again (sold my FA because I could not find a rod to balance it on). Question for you guys that have been able to balance these what rods are they on? Looking for a ML or M 7'-7'6" fast action that will balance tip up.

That's a pretty light reel for a rod that long. You might want

to look at stuff like the Bass Pro Carbonlite, maybe the Abu

series that are like the Carbonlites.

My 6'6" CLs balance great with Stradic 1000 series, including

the CI4+....

And what do you mean by balance? Tip light, tip heavy?

I like tip light, but when my reel is on (no lure), I like the

balance point just above the reel seat. I usually hold all my

fingers above the reel seat, or have my pinky just below it.

I mean tip light. I can not stand fishing with a rod that is tip heavy.

As far as holding the rod I either put all fingers in front of the reel stem or just my pinky behind it.

Then if I were you, I'd take my CI4 in to a Bass Pro or

Cabelas, etc., and put it on a few rods. See if some of

the 7 footers and 7'6" ers balance tip light or not.

Why don't you try counter-balancing with a rubber chair bumper and a couple of quarters on the butt of the rod? It's cheap, effective, doesn't alter the rod and you can get any rod you like.

I agree I can’t stand it either.

Not to cross brands but try one of the 7 ML Tatula Elites.  It should match really nicely if you can handle the whole Shimano on a Daiwa thing.  I am in the process of selling my Zodias (with a little seller's remorse - it's a 6'8" ML) but find it just a little short for what I currently use and most of my spinning rods are now 7' - 7'6" rods.  If you can find a Fenwick ET Smallmouth 6'9" you might be in heaven with that reel!  I moved my Ci4+ over to my Legend Xtreme 7' M and it's beautiful!

My original thought was the AGS 7'1. I agree on the 7'+ its really hard for me to use shorter rods now that I am used to the longer ones.

Most of my local stores don't stock much in the way of higher end rods. Mainly looking at the 300 price point. Also secretly waiting to see what the new XX line from Megabass looks like.

I use a 7' Med Fast Kistler KLX Drop shot Finesse rod and a 7' ML XF Kistler Helium 3. Both rods are so light that they balance the CI4+ with ease.

Completely overlooked the Kistler rods. Might have to take a look at those Heliums.

Kistler rods are one of my favorites. They are so light and sensitive. They have some kind of sale right now.
