I was reading about the economic benefit that the Classic and other tournamants have on the host town. It sounds like if they are done properly then they are a huge boost to the local economy. With all the national attention Alpena has been getting from MLF, I'm sure that they're bottom line has improved. They had the facilities and the fishing to put on a good show. That got me thinking that there are others place around the country that probably similar to Alpena that could use a shot in the arm that MLF could possibly provide. I talked to a local club guy at a quality fishery where a 25lb bag is pretty common. They have the facilities and the fishery. The opinion I got from him was "How would that benefit us?"  He mentioned some fisheries that went downhill or decreased after the word got out about the quality of the fishing. He didn't come right out and say it but he was against MLF or some other organization coming to his area until someone could show him how  MLF could benefit his club and fishery. I made the point that it would add to the local economy and also raise awareness to the value that LMB and SMB have. This is an area where trout and walleye are king. Bass are viewed there as a non native species and F&G wants them gone even though they are here to stay. Incredible fishery. It could hold some bigger tourney's and easily hold a MLF event. So if you were a local angler that had a great fishery, would you want a MLF tourney or something similar  to come to your home lake and/or area and showcase your state or would you like to keep it to yourself and other local anglers. To me, I would want to show it off. Seth Fieder wanted to show off Mill Lacs.(Which he did!) The fishing has stepped down a little since then but it's still a world class SMB fishery. I talked to a local guide. He said the AOY tourney's had been a huge shot in the arm for local economy. Plus raised awareness that they need to be protected. They now have the Mill Lacs SMB Aliiance which has helped make strides at protecting the fishery. There are pro's and con's to both sides. Just want hear from some fellow bass'rs.

I get your point behind this but MLF came to my home lake November before last and no one knew. Actually I'm pretty sure I was fishing during some of the shoots because I saw a helicopter filming a bass boat running around the lake. I believe they do this for a reason fishing during the week not announcing anything that way the lakes are not crowded with spectators nor at the ramps. So they came and left without much impact at all other than what they spent on lodging and food.

I wouldn't expect to notice much during an actual MLF event itself. Afterward I would expect it. I would be willing to bet that there are few more fishermen in town around Alpena these days. I certainly had never heard of Hubbard Lake before and would be willing to entertain the idea of going up there and fishing the area. Did it bother you that MLF showcased your home lake?

The headache of trying to bring a boat reregistered our of state to California and launch in most of the waters would prevent most from trying to come here.    So I wouldnt mind at all.  Sounds like the trail tries very hard to stay under the radar until the show hits tv.   Will it impact a fishery.   Definitely.    But will the good outweighed the bad?

I'd love to have MLF fish on my home lake.  However, since it is only 100 acres and electric motor only, the anglers might feel a little crowded.

Still, even that small, I would bet that every angler would be over 25 lbs, catching at least 10-15 fish and the winner should top 50 lbs.  None of this stuff with guys blanking for the first 2 rounds, this would be a catch fest.  To make it interesting, they should allow each angler to add in the biggest catfish they catch on an artificial lure as well, that could easily be a 15lb swing or so.

Not at all! Most af the field struggled but it was in the fall so that's expected. Either way I wouldn't of cared I just wish I knew they were there

Mlf was at my home lake last year and although I knew not a lot of others did. I'm not sure it's helped the community's bottom line. They came while the lake was flooded and fishing was tough. The Forest Cup is here this year also which will bring in a lot of money. It doesn't bother a lot of us. Some others I'm sure it does.

Yes, 100%.

The Historic James, Appomattox and Chickahominy river system can support large tournaments.

We have the Northern BASS Opens from time to time and we have no problem.

I would like to see what they'd do on a sucky (sorry, but it's oh so true) reservoir like Monroe, but there's no way they'll ever come here. Fishing is to darn bad :computer-22:

I'd love to see that. Also id love to see them fish patoka. Because it would be a dink fest, until someone got lucky and dialed in a super weird pattern and landed a few 6-8lbers

Haha, yeah that's what I've been reading everywhere while researching Potoka. Tough to catch a keeper there.  I've got a tournament there in about a month and a half, not real stoked about the lake choice lol.

I might be way off here but I would think MLF would affect a fishery much less than a regular FLW or Elite Series because they are catching fish and releasing them right then and there as opposed to bringing them in for a weigh-in.

Of course there was no effect. Why would anyone want to travel to northern Michigan especially in late summer early fall for world class smallmouth fishing?

Truth be told the fishing is lousy and the scenery is hideous. ?

Ya don't remember Mike Ike running his boat on the bank during the first Elite tournament on the Sabine? Some guys run from Orange all the way to the Calcasieu!

MLF slides in and slides out.  They don't want a lot of spectators.  The Elites on the other hand want a production and the locations they go to PAY them to come with the hopes that their payment gets offset by the added revenue from the event itself.  Would I care if they came to my home waters?  Well, they come to the Potomac River on a pretty regular basis and it doesn't hurt the fishery and I can't imagine it brings any more anglers than already fish there.  It's pretty busy with tournaments and weekend warriors.  There have been some new regulations regarding the river that may end the pro trails and a lot of local tournaments, we will have to wait and see.

I know, but I'd love to see them start on calcasieu, and stay from salt barrier north.

Not enough water for that many boats ?

They held an MLF on Chautauqua Lake.  I have no idea what it was like, since I wasn't anywhere near it at the time.  There have been several BASS events on Oneida Lake, even some Elites.  That lake is crowded every weekend, so I just hit another lake if there's a big event.
