Hey guys just interested to see if there is any of you the kayak fish around the everglades, weston, miramar or pembroke area. I've been fishing Alligator alley from a kayak the last couple of weekends and its been pretty fun.

You guys need to be extremely careful at the Everglades. The canals are not that wide and lots of very fast bass boats. As a captain I know each boater is responsible for his wake but most guys do not know that. They will blow past you pretty fast. Also when you guys blend into the vegetation you are difficult to make out at faster speeds. Just an FYI and be careful that’s all.   Bob

Been fishing most of Broward County from a kayak and bank for many years now and have had a blast doing it.  The alley is great but do be careful in those narrow canal areas and more importantly anytime you're around a bend, airboats and bass boats alike will rip through there and will not see you, especially if you don't have a flag mounted to your kayak.  Also as the name implies, and although I havent been personally bothered,  there have been several reports of very territorial gators approaching and even chasing bass boats for stretches, not something you want as a kayaker.  Likely just because people feed the them from their boats which is a separate issue.  Otherwise the alley can be great fun and can produce big numbers. There are some big girls out there as well if course but I've had less quality and more quantity out there overall.

I also like to fish the Holey Lands, Lake Ida, and multitude of lakes, canals all around Broward.  Favorite place is Loxahatchee, from a safety standpoint it has loads of flats that bass boats often can't even get to and the other areas are fairly wide open and you should be easily spotted.  Even better I believe the airboats are secluded to the south side of Lox, and I typically always fish the north side of the Lox boat ramps.  So you don't need to worry about an airboat tearing through one of the secluded flats I was referring to.  You will have your fair share of hunters out there depending on the season and rightfully so.  Just be courteous and steer clear of decoys, etc.  I see very few gators at Lox as well although they are definitely there, just beneath the surface.  Additionally the big fish are there, not always accessible but they are there, just need to find them.  Not to mention its beautiful.  Ping me if you have any questions or wanted to meet up sometime, otherwise be safe and have fun out there!

Good point, I chose a Hobie off-yellow kayak for extra visibility from boaters.

Thank you so so much for that info and i would love to meet with a couple of you guys and have some fun. Right know what's killing me is the wind. I'm looking forward to seeing the wind calm down a little.

Absolutely.  And yes the wind is key unless you have some sort of anchor.  I don't but I'm debating on rigging something simple up.  Usually for me if it's blowing over 10-12 which is often is, I find myself very frustrated at times. I typically look for some pads or structure I can drift against that will stop me from blowing all over the place.  Otherwise your best bet is typically first thing in the morning until about 10ish.  Usually after that I find the wind gets unbearable.  All depends on the weather of course but that been the story many times for me.

I just sold my 12 foot tiny boat build so I will be pulling back out the kayak (for skinny water) but I do use a trolling motor on mine and a drag anchor fishing has been awesome . Look forward to seeing some of you out there it is now my main form of getting into the smaller canals and shallows. I do however still have my 19 foot ranger

This weekend I'm on call but let see if we can do a fun day of fishing maybe the weekend of the 17 or the 24. Even if it's a couple of hours in the morning so the wind doesn't bother us too much.

Hope to see you guys in the water!

Thinking about heading tomorrow to the water, probably either lox or tamiami, if anyone wants to join. I'll probably be targeting quality so any suggestions to place or method is welcome.

Have fun guys

Ok, guys I know many of you fish the Holiday Park, Tamiami Trail area in kayaks. But we are entering the mating season in the Everglades for alligators. They will and have attacked boats if the female thinks her eggs are threatened. Cast a bait to the bank and it lands close to where her eggs are buried and you’ll see. Twice in my life an alligator has rammed my boat out there till I left the area. Both times I casted close to the bank and didn’t see her. For the month of May my advise is fish somewhere else. I agree with Capt Bob I fish Loxahatchee the Gators don't play around this time of the year. They are a vicious animal quick, fast and VERY powerful. It blows my mind when I come pulling in at end of the day and see tourist walking up close to the water to get a better look at them and some feed them which is absolutely insane it could be deadly.

PS- I'll tell them to becareful  but they just laugh or look at me like whatever but if i see someone feeding them I'll call FWC get warden out there.
