I'm heavily considering purchasing the Johnny Morris Signature Series BC/rod combo.  With a rod/reel trade in, I feel you can get it for a pretty decent price.

Has anyone used this rod or reel, that could post a review?  good and bad, worth the money?

Here is the rod/reel in question:

Good gear.  When I was on pro-staff for Bass Pro, it's all I threw.

I thought it was a great performing combo for the (sale) price. The combo is feather light and I really like the rods grips. The rod is also surprisingly strong. The reel casts well and is not bulky like the other Jm signature was.

I personally think the colors of Bps newer rods and reels are kind of tacky and cheap looking. But that's personal preference.

As far as worth the price? I think it is, and you will enjoy using it, but I ultimately ending up exchanging mine for curado 70 and carbon lite rod, for no other reason than I liked the curado 70 even more. I felt that is was an over all a better value for me. The performance differences were barely noticeable to me

I'm definitely a color guy.  Once I find the color I like, then I disect the specs of the rod/reel to see if I'd like that part of it.  This definitely matches everything I'd like.

I am planning on trading in my PQ1, and ugly stick cranking combo I currently have, for this new combo.  Reel is definitely lighter, roughly 1-2 ounces.  I couldn't find the weight of the rod, but I could only imagine it's more sensitive and lighter in weight than the cranking ugly stick I have.

If you are planning on getting it during the spring sale they wont let you do the trade in program bc it is a combo

Crankbait, when a pro or a retail sales company puts its name on a product you know it has to be good.

So anything BPS is acceptable.

Same goes with the pros. They put their name on lots of items that they want to promote and those items should be top of the line in their price category.

I love the Extreme rods. Still upset that they have been discontinued.

I fish the Extremes side by side with my G. Loomis rods in tournaments. No problem.

Now go out, get yourself a beautiful set up and let's get some fishing done before the ice melts and football season is upon us.

Geaux Tigers!!!!! :)

That would work but you would get it for $200 dollars, Instead if you bought the combo that they have out on the rack it is $120

The rod is plenty light.  I am super picky about light rods and reels and this one is great.  That's the only reason i won't get the JM Sig Series reel because I'm pretty sure it's like 7.5 or something and my heaviest reel is 6.7.  But as far as the rod goes I love it it feels like a feather.  You won't think it's heavy especially after using an ugly stick.

well, I did it.  Went to my local BPS and bought the combo.

It was on sale, then I had the trade in discount on top of it.

I picked up the M/F, 6'-9".  This will be my treble hook lure set up.

First impression? SEXY AS HELL . That is very pretty.  I got slack from my friends.  They don't dig the red.  Whatever, they're not true friends anyways.  Who needs'em

I have never had a rod that had a line ID system on it, that's quite nifty.  Especially since I'm always forgetting the line I put on the reel at the beginning of the season.

I noticed it also has micro guides.  I've never used them either.  So we will see how that performs.  I've read some reviews on icing over, and crud getting in the eyes which prohibits smooth casts.

With 10# test line loaded on to the spool, this combo comes in at 2.5-3 ounces less than my PQ1/Ugly stick combo.  Noticeably lighter!  Feels very light and comfortable in my hand.  The handles were a little odd in color, but they have grown on me too.  Match the reel, better than black would have.

I can't comment on performance yet.  Won't be able to do that until water warm up.  Waters don't really freeze around here, so I could go and throw it around some to get a feel for it.  But definitely can't wait. C'mon water temps, RISE!

The Bass Pro in Cincy had at least 3 Extremes on a clearance rack last Saturday.

I do not have this reel, but want to share this.  In 1999 I bought my first high quality reel with gift cards and it was a Johnny Morris finest at the time.  The reel was a bit large and a little heavy by today's standards and I guess it was anodized. It came with a custom reel cover and a nice one.  I fished the living daylights out of the reel for 16 years and cleaned/lubed it myself.  I took it to BPS to trade in on a Shimano in the original box and reel cover and it was in perfect condition.  The manager of the fishing department went nuts over it and kept it for casting lessons (he said).  That reel was superbly built and never missed a beat for 16 years.  I used it for every bait out there including frogs with every line available.

I notice on Major League Fishing that Edwin Evers has been fishing with the platinum series, but don't believe I have ever heard him mention it.
