Daiwa spinning reel

I'm looking to get another spinning reel for a rod I just picked up. I've never dealt with Daiwa spinning reels.... I've used there baitcasters.

I'm used to using shimano spinning reels but after some research I want to get a Daiwa but I have a few questions.

 

1. I use the 2500 size reels from shimano and at 8lb test they hold 140 yds why do the Dallas hold 100 yds more in the sam size? Is it just a deeper spool?

 

2. If I wasn't going with Daiwa and sticking with shimano I was gonna step up in price range from what I have now which is a $100 NASCI. I was gonna go for the stradic ($200). What are the reels you would look at in both price ranges from Daiwa? I was looking at in the 100 range either the exceler LT or the Fuego LT and in the 200 range without going over the 200 mark really it's just the Tatula LT that I see

I'd probably go with the Stradic and the Tatula LT.

The LT looks pretty sweet.

 

The Lexa 2000 was in my arsenal for a while, now it

sits in need of repair (on of my sons was using it for

about a year and a half). The most impressive thing

for me on the Daiwa is the bail mechanism. It feels

better.

 

But in terms of quality, Stradic is hands down my fav.

The direct drive screw-in handle is better than the on

the Lexas.

 

I believe this is present in the Ultegra up on Shimano's

side.

I have owned a lot of Shimanos and enjoy lighter weight gear.  Consequently, my favorite reels in recent years have been the Stradic Ci4s.  However, after checking out the Tatula LT at the store recently, I ordered one of the sterling silver Tatula LTs instead of buying another Ci4.  I have been happy with the performance of my other Daiwa spinning reels (revros and RG-AB) and assuming that the Tatula works as good as it feels, I expect that I will be purchasing those over future Ci4s.

That's what drew me towards the Daiwas was the weight. My rod is super light so I was looking for a light reel. I didn't realize how heavy the shimanos were till I started looking around. The stradic is 8oz the Tatula is 6oz. 2oz doesn't seem like a lot until your out to there all day.... it makes a world of difference. Not to mention the balance

Historically, the Daiwas have had spools of wider diameter the Shimanos of similar size designations.  I'm a bit out of date and this may longer be true...  While I don't need the extra capacity, I've always felt the larger diameter contribute to less line memory and greater casting distance.

If you can spring the Tatula LT I would jump on that. I also have a Fuego LT that is very smooth.

I have owned Stratics, Saros, Saharas, Sedonas as well as Daiwa Tierras and Capricorns.  I took a flyer on the BG series from Daiwa this spring.  My lord it's awesome, solid as can be, connected, no slop, smooth drag.  The 2000 size is slightly smaller than the 2500 Shimano.  Their weight is in line with 2500 Shimanos that have Aluminum frames.  I now have 3 of them in my rotation and they remind me very much of the Stratic with a more solid feel (that's like saying a tank is more solid than an E class Mercedes, neither is flimsy).  

 

The new LT series from Daiwa are interesting but the spools hold a different amount of line compared to what they used to (an old, non LT 2500 holds less the the LT series 2500) while weighing less.  It confuses me on what to buy in that range to maintain balance and have the right geometry/spool for the set up.  I got scared and ordered more BG's.

 

That being said ALFC has it's 10% coupon and Tatula LT's with a free cooler.  That has peaked my interest.

The Daiwa BG has really great reviews from everything I’ve seen. If you want to stay near that $100 price point. Can actually be had for less, if you look around.

I decided to try a Daiwa Revros this past year because I found it for about half price. It's a super smooth reel and feels very connected and the drag is as smooth as the retrieve. Previously had not liked the Daiwa spinning reels I tried but this one has me thinking otherwise.

I own a 2500 BG and a Stradic FK 3000. Between those two you cant go wrong at their given price points, the BG is by far the best 100 dollar spinner I have ever used and the FK is a solid choice. After having fished one I can safely say had the Tatula LT been out when I got my Stradic I wouldn't own the FK. The Tatula LT 2500 is my next reel.

I've always been a fan of the Shimano Symetre. I have the Nascis. You will not be disappointed. Nothing short of a Symetre. I just purchased a Tatula 2500 for an Avid setup. I really think/thought they are a bit over priced but used BPS reel trade in and card insentives to cut the price pretty well. I'm looking forward to using the Daiwa. The 6.2 : 1 ratio is what I wanted.

I've owned both Shimano and Daiwa, my early Daiwas being the Cabelas Prodigy.  I have never met a Daiwa spinning reel that I didn't love.  Both are very good, but one can usually find more Daiwas on sale than Shimanos.

I picked up a Daiwa BG 2000 for finesse fishing, haven't got to use it but it feels like a much more expensive reel, only heavier. They also have a larger diameter spool than many reels of the same size, which I like.

 

The Tatula LT is a very light reel that will feel more like the Stradic CI4+ in weight.

The LT series is sweet. I only own the Tatula's, but have felt the Fuegos in store. I don't think you can go wrong with any Daiwa or Shimano over $40 right now. they are making some good product

I like Daiwa reels. I particularly like their spinning reels and the " air bail" a thicker hollow bail wire is a huge improvement over the thin Shimano bail as it's so much more robust and less prone to getting bent and twisted, which leads to the bail sticking half open half closed when you try to close it. I also prefer the slightly larger diameter spools, though the new LT range seem to have gone away from that a bit. I picked up a 3000 sized Fuego LT and it is about the same size as the previous Daiwa 2500 sized reels. Very light and super smooth so far. Impressed.

I have a pair of Stradic Ci4+ reels, a Stradic FJ, and a Dawia BG.  

 

If weight were not an issue I would take the BG over the Ci4+ reels.

I picked up a Diawa Ballistic 2500 last year and is is my favorite spinning reel right now. Look on Ebay for a good deal.  They are very smooth.

In the less than $100 range I like the daiwa bg. In the $200 range, the tatula lt. So far I'm really liking my sterling tatula lt. I've shied away from the magsealed reels although I'm sure they're amazing.

I have two Daiwa reels for sale in the classified because I bought three of the Sterling Silver Tatula LT reels.  I have a Revros 2500 that is still NIB and an RG 2500 that is spooled and essentially brand new in box.  Both have stellar reviews.  Both can be had for $75 TYD if you want them.  That's a steal considering both retail for $60 each.  I just need to move them.  My loss is your gain basically but I would rather have them being used by someone than sitting.  Let me know.  Thanks!
