Super User NHBull Posted February 20, 2018 Super User Posted February 20, 2018 Folks, Just looking for input on Fins braid. The windtamer caught my eye, given the Fronts that will be coming through in a few weeks. The XS has also peaked my interest. Little is written, so I figured I would reach out. Thanks Al Quote
livin2fish Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 My comments may not be worth much, since in a previous post you mentioned that you prefer bait casters, but, I've used it and like it (Windtamer 15 lb is all I have tried). Have it on 5 spinning outfits and use a 8 lb or 12 lb mono or fluor leader. Started using it due to WRB's recommendation in a thread about a year ago. It is a round line, has excellent knot strength and line strength. It is particularly good with the FG knot with the Rizzuti(sp?) finish. All other knots work fine as well. Seems quiet in the guides. Seems to me better than most braids in the wind. I can think of no reason why it wouldn't work fine on baitcasters. Only time I use braid on a baitcaster is for frogging or A-rig. I don't pitch a lot of heavy cover. I use mono or fluor for my baitcasters, and that is personal preference, no other reason. 1 Quote
Yumeya Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 I've been using fins 40g for a while now and its been excellent. It actually one of my favorite braids, it is thicker then stated... 1 Quote
PatrickKnight Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 10 and 12 lb Windtamer is the best braid I have ever used. I would still be using it had I not got a stupid deal on bulk spools of 10 lb 832. I only fish spinning tackle so take that for what its worth. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 21, 2018 Super User Posted February 21, 2018 I'm also interested in the differences between Fins braided lines. I want to try it on a Ned Rig rod. Looking at 5# or 8#, but not sure if I should go with Windtamer, XS or Original PRT. Quote

They do a great job on promotions, but I think a few guys also use it Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 21, 2018 Super User Posted February 21, 2018 I bought some bulk spools of the original PRT braid to use on line counters for trolling numerous years ago. It has held up fine, good quality. It was originally used more in saltwater than fresh. 1 Quote
HookRz Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Does "wind tamer" really tame the wind? Also how does the diameter compare in the lower pound tests? I'm thinking of using it for finesse. Quote

Super User WRB Posted February 21, 2018 Super User Posted February 21, 2018 FINS has a polyuerathane coating that makes very smooth and quite going through guides and it's color fast, meaning it doesn't lose color or dyes on your hands. Daiwa braids are slightly smaller in diameter but the dyes run. Finns is made in America! Tom 2 Quote
