BrackishBassin Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 I’ve seen this question asked a couple of times. Even asked it myself once. Came across this while looking for ‘saltwater’ baitcasters. The last couple of lines were especially interesting. http://fish.shimano.com/content/sac-fish/en/home/products/info/news/easy-baitcaster-cleaning-after-saltwater.html 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 19, 2018 Super User Posted February 19, 2018 Having fished in salt water nearly all my life no reel is salt water proof and needs to be cleaned. The difference from fresh water being corrosion and salt deposited on parts after the water evaporates. Shimano's Calcutta's for example are designed to seal water intrusion and uses metals that are not galvanic or prone to corrode. Off shore reels like Penn Int'l require rinsing and cleaning after use in salt water. Good vedio, thank you for sharing. Tom 1 Quote
