BraxtonsWorld Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 How do you guys feel about inflatable kayaks? Are they safe to use for fishing purposes? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 19, 2018 Super User Posted February 19, 2018 My preference will always be for a roto-molded boat, but there some that have gotten along with an inflatable. Most go that route due to storage issues. Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 I first bought an inflatable Sea Eagle boat thinking it would be perfect for me. I used it once. As handy as it was to store it was still a pain setting up and putting away. I also felt ridiculous in it for some reason. I ended up going to a roto-mold style kayak like J Francho just mentioned and it's the best fishing decision I ever made. 2 Quote

Super User Scott F Posted February 19, 2018 Super User Posted February 19, 2018 There are different levels of inflatables. Some are nothing more than pool toys and would not be considered safe to use while fishing. Higher quality inflatables are considerably more durable and are going to cost close to what a hard shell yak will cost. The bladders are covered with very tough vinyl covered fabric that is very safe. I've been using an inflatable pontoon for years with never a concern about safety but again these are higher end watercraft. The inflatables won't paddle as easily but they are easier to transport and store. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted February 20, 2018 Super User Posted February 20, 2018 Hooks and inflatables, I smell treble, I mean trouble. Quote

PECo Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 If your issue is storage, Hobie makes a line of inflatable sit-on-tops with its Mirage Drive. They work pretty well. Quote
BraxtonsWorld Posted February 21, 2018 Author Posted February 21, 2018 Thank you everyone for the replies!I am definitely looking into better models and companies than I was before! Quote
YoTone Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 I had one that ive used. ive had success in them but paddling into the wind was very hard. anchoring is a must when tossing a heavier lure or else a 130 plopper will basically tow you around. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 22, 2018 Global Moderator Posted February 22, 2018 Great for heavy current and bouncing off rocks. A little sluggish in slow wide open water Quote
