Super User NHBull Posted February 18, 2018 Super User Posted February 18, 2018 A few of us are looking to buy. DAV who is an avid fisherman a couple rods . He is primarily at jig and worm guy and I was thinking NRX 852c. and/ or NRX 853c, when a buddy recommended the MBRGLX 842c/843c. Without regard to price, thinking more value, would we be giving up much going the mbrglx......any first hand experience is appreciated. al Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 18, 2018 Super User Posted February 18, 2018 Well, although I REALLY like my GLX MBR842C, I think the 844C is a much better choice for jigs and worms. My 842 is used primarily for small swimbaits (Rage Swimmer), Rage Blade and swim jigs. The tip, in my opinion, is too soft for standard jigs and worms or at least much better suited for "moving" baits. 2 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 18, 2018 Super User Posted February 18, 2018 Like anything else where an input is needed on specific rod a few things always come to mind. Weight of lures used, size of fish present, cover present, and is this a jig only or something that will need to pull double duty for other baits to? Quote

Yeah, the majority want to buy him 2 NRX’s, but just confirming for the nay sayers 1 Quote

I wish I was this guy and had people wanting to voluntarily buy me rods. There has been a ton written on here and other places comparing the NRX and the new GLX rods. Sensitivity is close by the NRX is still a bit more sensitive. What differs? GLX MBR rods offer anglers 7 foot rods with full cork grip handles and more of a universal taper to handle jigs and plastics plus spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, topwater, some cranks, small swimbaits etc. The NRX models are going to strictly bottom contact and not as ideally suited for much else minus the Umbrella rod and the 895 punching rod. Look at the TackleTrap rep samples. GLX and NRX rods are separated by a very small $ amount. Quote

Thanks for the input.....this guy runs the local Legion and has spent his life giving to others...The gift I'd from the Legion 1 Quote
Yudo1 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 You guys are awesome. If his favorite techniques are jig and worm, get him the NRX. 1 Quote

I have an NRX MBR 842C that I use for bottom contact jigs and t-rigs and I don't like the soft tip. DVT is building me a custom right now for jigs and my MBR will be repurposed for small swimbaits, spinnerbaits, etc. 1 Quote

I also have an NRX 854C which isn't listed as a choice in this thread but it is a phenomenal jig rod. I do believe I have caught fish with it that I wouldn't have felt with any of my other rods.
