AllAboutThatBass16 Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Hi everyone, I'm new to BassResource so bear with me. I'm looking to buy a 40th anniversary Heritage Edition Bass Tracker because it barely fits into my budget. This will be the first boat that I've ever owned (18 y/o) and I am wondering if I would be able to haul it with my 2012 3.6L chevy Impala. The owners maual says that the max tow weight for the impala is 500 lbs but I've heard many people say that they've towed 1000-1500 plus with theirs. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Super User Scott F Posted February 18, 2018 Super User Posted February 18, 2018 The Impala will probably pull the boat but the brakes and transmission won’t hold up very long. If your trips to the lake are just a few miles at low speeds you might get away with it. 1 1
Super User A-Jay Posted February 18, 2018 Super User Posted February 18, 2018 Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ The average package weight of that rig (boat motor & trailer) WITHOUT gear & gas is over 1,700 lbs. Good news & bad news I guess. Good news ~ congrats on getting a new rig. Bad News ~ the Impala's transmission, suspension & brakes are not at all designed to withstand that type of load. But wait - more good news ~ time for a new truck too . . . . A-Jay 2 2
AllAboutThatBass16 Posted February 18, 2018 Author Posted February 18, 2018 Yeah :/ might just have to trade it in for an SUV Yeah ?Guess so.. thanks A-Jay! 2
jaimeastin Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Decisions... Congrats on the new boat. I would recommend you consider getting a more capable vehicle. You don't want the sport you love to hinder your daily life. I love cars, and always have them... But I wish my first would have been a truck/SUV. They changed the game for what all I could do. Don't just rush to get something to haul, make sure it is reliable as not to add any expense. As others said, it will work. Becareful trailering and at the ramp. At 18, last thing you need is another bill or your main transportation out of commission. I am sure it will all work out. What state do you live? Maybe a forum member can be or more service. 1

If you haven't already check out the thread specifically for this boat. There are several guys on there who've ordered one and they're starting to roll in. Welcome to Bassresource! 1
Super User Catt Posted February 20, 2018 Super User Posted February 20, 2018 I read "Impala" & thought ? 7 3
jaimeastin Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Went to my boat dealer and saw a guy with a Dodge neon with a 2" tow hitch... He car sounded awful when he cranked it up and drive off... Well awful to me. The car still drive away. 1
tbone1993 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I would look into getting a small suv. Aside from tearing apart the Impala you could also kill someone if you have an accident towing it. Don't think any insurance company would ever cover anyone towing beyond the manufacturers limitations. Had a friend tow with a car before but it had a big v8 and it was a smaller older tracker. 1
Super User iabass8 Posted February 26, 2018 Super User Posted February 26, 2018 You'll trailer it fine. Stopping, going up hills/ramps will be a huge issue for you. 1

Cak920 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Definitely do not recommend backing it down a boat ramp. 1

This^^ Launching will test that Impala even more than simple towing will. I've heard of people getting stuck trying to pull a boat out on a wet slick ramp with only 2 driving wheels, especially if it's front wheel drive. 1
AllAboutThatBass16 Posted March 6, 2018 Author Posted March 6, 2018 Thanks for the replies everyone! Sorry for not replying sooner but I honestly forgot about this post that I made . I'm taking my time looking around for the best setup. Think I'm going to go with an SUV. All of the feedback is much appreciated! On 2/20/2018 at 5:13 AM, jaimeastin said: Decisions... nosdog2 Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Yeah that would def be a bad idea. But hey I am sure you could find plenty of fishing buddies willing to haul you in exchange for a day on the water until you can get a vehicle to tow with.
