I’m in the market for a new reel and I really like shimano products. I have several curado I’s that I really enjoy fishing, although lubing them every month or so sometimes is annoying.

That being said, I’m looking to get something newer, either the curado K or the curado 70. Both have similar price tags, which do you like more?

I don't have a K but have 3 70s  I use one for shaky, one for ned, and one for cranks.

Those Curado 70 just palms my hands perfectly, Just wish they have little bit deeper spool.

However, Im considering getting the Curado K (CU200K) for chatterbait.

Three Curado 70 (Flipping, Finesse and Texas Rig)

One Scorpion 70. (Jerkbait)

However, the most important thing is how it feels on your hands. Bring your rod to the store that has both of them. Try it and see how it feels.

I switched over to almost all 50/70 on my arsenals. I own like 4 of the Curado 70, Two Shimano Core 50 MG7 and one Pro Qualifier at 5.4.1 (Cranking is not my fave but will do it if I gotta do it to win the tournament). Bottom line im trying to say is, check it out first.

The only downfall is line cap:

Curado K: 14lbs/110 yards

Curado 70: 10lbs/105, 12lbs/85

I picked up my first 70 sized curado last year and since then I've gotten rid of most of my 200s in favor of the 70s.  I've relegated the remaining 200 sized reels to heavier moving baits. The 70 holds enough line to cast a 1/2 ounce plug as far as I could possibly want to and Handles baits 1/4 ounce and under much much better than the 200s.

Since you own a 200 already, keep it for your heavier moving baits and you'll love the 70 for everything else.

The braking system in the 70 is an updated version and is far less maintenance than the old i series.

This ^^^ different hand different feel. I'm small guy so I prefer smaller size reels. They both about the same system only K got micro module gear and more line capacity.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up buying two new curado 70s from eBay. They were marked down to $160 plus an additional 20% off promo code for Presidents’ Day! Got them for about $130 a piece

You will love those reels.  I have both of my XGs spooled with Invizx 15lb flouro and throw a wide variety of baits on them.  I really like the K also, it is just a different reel.

Both are solid reels. Honestly, if you can afford two reels, buy one of each. I'm sure you will be happy with both of them.

Curious if anyone knows if Shimano may or possibly ever make a 50 or 70 series K? Really digging the K's I have but do love the size of my Aldebaran. I just can't buy too many as they're definitely more spendy. An Aldeberan size at a K price point would be nice! I have no experience with the Curado 70, but love my K's.

Possible to see a Citica k as for 50 or 70 I don’t think so?

Darn. I really like the K. Just wish for something smaller in the 50 or 70 series.

The curing k is an evolution of the Curado 70, it has a new concept of manufacture of the gears, called MICROMODULE.

This new contour allows for greater massages at the junction of the gears, leaving it even softer.

However, there are already many reports that the Curado K and all other models with MICROMODULE are having problems, since it became very fragile and the life ultil diminil much, not lasting even 1 year

Here in Brazil the reports are many, because the fish are very strong in their attacks and the gears do not resist.

However, I believe that for a very light fishing the K models can resist, different from the Curado 70 for example that has a beautiful history.

The 70 and the K are both great reels. I'd suggest picking up both . The 70 is more of a finesse reel and handles lighter applications better.

Is there any indication of a new 70 coming out

The Antares MGL!  ???

I'd like to see a Curado 70 with a dual bearing supported main shaft and MGL spool.

I'm thinking something similar to the SLX XT. We'll see , come July. I'll be at icast that first day (Wednesday). I'll take pics of whatever is new.

Low end and mid end shimano are made in Malaysia, that include Curado and Scorpion equivalent to Curado (scorpion 70, scorpion MGL). The chornarch  and up still made in Japan, I believe.

Looks like the Chronarch MLGs would work for me. Have to add another Bantam XG too. Probably two Chronarch HG 71s.

The SLX MLG is also a possibility.

I haven’t seen as much posted about them. Opinions?

Chornarch MGL is nice capable of what bantam can do plus more and super light weight of ci4+ frame. It is same line capacity as bantam MGL which is 150. If I’m gonna buy another reel this would be my pick.

SLX MGL is just an upgrade of SLX with fine tune dial and MGL spool (70 size). A lot of user praise them some even over Curado 70. I myself find that the internal of SLX is inferior than 70 (more plastic parts) and the drag system the Curado is way better (better than a lot of reels these day) just a 1/2 turn you can go from loose drag to tight drag, 1/4 turn can get you from 2 lbs drag to lock down. I’m not sure if I ever need SLX MGL at about the same price as Curado 70 (smart shopper can get them way below $150).
