I need some help figuring out the best choice for a couple of my set ups. I’ve got my spinning and cranking setups all set but need to figure out the best line for my MH rods. One is a setup for bottom contact baits (t-rigs, jigs, etc) and the other for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and ploppers). I’ve got 30 and 40# lo-vis Gray braid, 14lb spiderwire ultimate mono, and 12 and 15# big game. What line should I use on each combo? Thanks in advance.

I would use the 40# on the jig rod and mono on the other. I would invest in some flouro for when you fish clear water on the jig rod though. You can then use a leader on the braid and I recommend using the FG leader knot.

I very rarely fish clear water in my area so that’s no worry.

I will be using all 3 on most of my setups this year.  10 lb flourocarbon for backing, 50 or 30 lb braid for main line, and 20 lb mono for leader line.

BTW, anyone ever used Andes Mono? It is super cheap but gets great reviews from what I've read.

On the rod you use for texas rigs and jigs, I would use between 40 and 50 lb braid so you can use an appropriate sized leader for what you're fishing. For example, 10-12lb is great for open water, but you may want to use up to a 20lb leader if you are fishing heavy cover. The 40lb braid you have would do here and you could likely use some of the 15lb Big Game as a leader, although I would go with fluorocarbon if you are confident with your knot tying abilities.

On the other rod, I would run either fluorocarbon or mono between 14 and 17lbs. That 15lb Big Game would be a decent choice here although I have moved to Sufix Siege for my mono, I find that it has much less memory.

Is there anything wrong with straight braid for jigs and t-rigs? The 30lb is low vis so visibility shouldn’t be much of an issue.

The only thing I'd say is 30 lb would be tougher to see while watching your line for strikes.  I would imagine plenty of people do just fine with it though.  You may notice the line will dig into the spool a little more than say, 50 lb test.  Again, I would think plenty of people do fine with it.  I plan to use 30 lb braid for my cranking setups this year and high vis  yellow 50 lb for bottom contact baits.  Pretty anxious to check it out.

I've used Ande line for years. I started because I was young and broke and it was cheap. I recently have been using Sufix Siege and I like it. But Ande has worked well for me for a long time.

I have some Hybrid for leaders. I'll use 30# KK braid on my M, 40 PP or Sufix 832 on my MH and 20 PP or Sufix 832 on my M spinning rod. I have Hybrid in 6, 8, 10 and 12 on hand.

Andes mono is excellent and it is usually well priced.

I'm a braid, or braid with FC leader guy

10 lb on spinning set-up

20 on most everything else

30 on 1 for light grass.

Unless your in heavy salad, I don't understand 50 and 60 lb.  To me it is like fishing with rope.

I go with 50 because it's easier to see the line move on the uncommon occurrence  that I get a bite.  Also, I think it digs into the spool less for certain presentations.

For most of my fishing, I certainly don't need a line that can withstand 50 lbs of force.

Last season I did the opposite, and just for the sake of trying something new, I figured I'd switch it up.  The flouro I bought for backing is 600 yards for 10 bucks.

Given the lines you're asking about, I'd use either braid depending on the cover you fish in most of the time.

And whatever of your monos (can't believe I just typed that) you like for the spinner/chatter baits.

I think I’m going to do the 30lb braid for bottom contact baits and use the 14lb Ultimate Mono for leader in the unlikely event I’m fishing clear water. For the spinnerbaits/chatterbaits I’ll use the 15 lb Big Game. The 15 is only .001” bigger than the 12lb so I may as well get th extra 3lb of breaking strength.

Don't know what came over me! Everything started to get blurry and my hand was shaking.
