I am back on this site after along dry spell. But here is my problem, I am retired and money is not flowing like it was when I was working!  So now I am on a tight budget. So I would like to fish Fluorcabon  for my cranks, drop shot, jigs, ect. but I may have to rob a bank just to fish like I used to. So is the P- line Floroclear a close second ?   I did l;ook at the red Label  by Seaguar and for 12 to 14 bucks for 200 yds to me is not a good buy.

I like Pline, but was not a fan of Fluoroclear.

Lately I've been fishing Hi Seas flouro coated copolymer and have really been liking it. Great abrasion resistance and manageable. Used it on spinning and casting from 8lb for shakyheads to 15lb for jigs and bladed jigs, along with 10 for jerks and cranks. It's held up great for all of them.

I have limited experience with Fluoroclear. I've used the 4lb on spinning gear for trout fishing, and it performed well.

If you're on a limited budget, Floroclear is a great option, but

beware it is a love it or hate it line on this forum!! I am

among the love it people, but I haven't been using it a lot in

the past year as I've got so much Yo-Zuri Hybrid laying around.

I will use it occasionally now, when I feel like a change, but for

the most part today it is between YZ Hybrid and Gamma Edge

fluorocarbon.

And Floroclear is simply a hybrid line with a fluorocarbon coating,

not pure, so won't give the full refraction a true fluoro line will.

...and I am among the hate it people  Not a close second, or even a distant third. I'd never use the stuff again, personally. You could compromise with Yozuri Hybrid, though I'm personally not a fan, but it is pretty solid. From your comments, it sounds like straight fluoro won't be an option due to cost.

I hate it and love yhb.  You could find deals on ebay or try for some of the two for one black Friday deals.

Bassman,

The Seaguar Red label is a fairly moderately priced fluorocarbon line as far a fluorocarbon lines go. The stuff is pricey for sure but it is a pretty good line from what I have read and deduced using it.

One of the things I do is to fill my spool halfwayish or so with mono of close to the same diameter and add the top shot (50-75 yards) of Fluorocarbon. So a 200 yard spool might get my three line changes/fillings at 65 yards a fill.

Dunno if that helps ya much,

Fishingmickey

Are you talking about the high seas grand slam? I was wondering how it preformed. It is only 8 dollars at walmart.

I have four year old Invisx on some reels that shows no signs of aging.  I'm only refilling the reel because it's getting low on the spool from retying.  Formulate that into your budget.

I can understand the love/hate with floroclear. I used it for a few years before I ran into a bad spool. It broke at the knot on EVERY hook set. After 2 fishing trips and trying every knot I know how to tie, I finally stripped it off and refilled from an old spool. Problem completely disappeared. I still keep it around now for bream and crappie poles but I won't put it on a bass rig anymore.

I love multiple variations of P-Line, Fluoroclear is not among them. You could give it to me for free and I would thank you for the backing line and still go and buy another line.

Funny, I have never had a bad spool, of about 7 I have laying

around. Guess it had some bad batches for a lot of people, but

mine were always solid. But I always has to make some extra

wraps for leader material because it's so slick.

I use the fluorocarbon coated stuff they carry at Wal-Mart. I fished a jerkbait on 10lb for an entire day Monday, caught dozens of fish. I kept checking the knot and giving it a stout pull check, never did need to retie. Also wrestled a 4+ out of some brush on a jig with the 15lb, couldn't find a bad spot in the line and had to cut to retie because I couldn't break it with my hands.

I'm not as picky about line for moving baits. For jigs on Table Rock I use 10 or 12lb. sniper.

Yeah, It's going to be more up front but it lasts well. If it gets worn after a few months just turn it around..

Go see the guys at Ozark Extreme outdoors in Kimberling City.

I fish both: flouroclear and fluorocarbon. I will tell you that flouroclear is okay at best, but for a copoly there are better options out there. That being said, I’ve had moderate luck with flouroclear, but 90% of my set-ups are braid to leader, straight braid. I’d suggest thinking about braid to leader, because all you’re doing is replacing the the leader line of the time. Just a thought.

That is where I like to spend some money and BS with Jack or I go to Thunder bait and Tackle ,across from Ma’s!
