Dobyns Fury vs Sierra flipping rod

I'm in the market for a flipping and pitching rod.

I would like to stick with my Dobyns, I've used the Fury and Champion lines before but not the Sierra. 

 

Is the Sierra worth the extra money? Or is it basically the same blank just better components?

 

I like the champion line but rights now I just can't afford that line from Dobyns

Keep an eye on dobyns website if you want a champion. I picked up the champ 765flip for the same price as a new sierra.

I owned a fury, I own a savvy 766 for flipping and I own a 684 Sierra, and had my hands on a 766 Sierra. Sierra I love but I also love the savvy. Also you can get a savvy 766 for 100 on Dobyns website, the savvy is a little heavier but I also feel it's got more power than the Sierra I felt.

The Sierra is a totally different blank than a Fury or Champion (either Champ series) It is a slower action blank. My wife has a 705SF Sierra for a frog/heavy jig rod. My frog rod is a Champion XP DC705C. The specs are very close but hers does have a slower tip. Yes the price is worth the upgrade for feel and components. However I would put one in my hand before pulling the trigger since you are already familiar with the Fury and Champs.  She loves hers and I love mine. If my boat could hold rods over 7 foot my choice would have been a DC 735C for heavier jigs and frogs.

 

Honestly there are lots of techniques I would consider using a Sierra for, but flipping, frogging pitching I would save my money and get the Champion xp 765 or 766 flip stick.  Now we may see a Tackle Warehouse spring sale and then maybe you catch something on sale, or living where you live I would talk to the tackle store up at North East and see what kind of a deal he would make you. When I was in there recently their stock of rods was low and he was going to have to order some soon.
