Super User the reel ess Posted February 11, 2018 Super User Posted February 11, 2018 I inherited my dad's 2013 Jeep Wrangler with soft top. And, of course, I like to fish. But the interior is so small it's hard to even put rods in without dropping the top or zipping out the windows, which is not always an option. I use a kayak mostly. If you've done something or bought something to make a Jeep more fishing friendly, show me. Pics would be even better. Thanks. Quote

volzfan59 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I had a 2007 Jeep, 2 door soft top. Mine was lifted six inches. I just bought those foam kayak mounts that go between the vehicle and the yaks. You can get them at BPS/ Cabela's, Dicks, Academy, etc. Our problem was one of injuries. Do to work, I dislocated my shoulder years ago, my wife tore her rotator cuff. I was also blessed with arthritis in both hips, knees and lower spine. Anyway, between flipping yaks and our old canoe up on top of the Jeep, one of us was always re-injuring ourselves. I bought one of those Harbor Freight/ Northern Tool 4X8 utility trailers and converted it to haul the boats. Your most likely younger than us, hopefully without the injuries. The foam things will probably work fine for you. Look at 4WD parts online. They used to sell a rack for soft tops, but it ain't cheap! 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 12, 2018 Super User Posted February 12, 2018 You should be able to put the rods up front, and lay them so they pass between the seats and to the back. That's what I do in my extended cab truck. I can go up to 8'. The other option is store them in the kayak hull. I did that for any long trips for years, but the boat has to be a SOT. 1 Quote

They ache just from normal fishing. Heck, I hurt my hip turning in the bed the other night! I have a truck. I just love using the Jeep as much as I can. It makes me feel close to my dad. 1 hour ago, J Francho said: You should be able to put the rods up front, and lay them so they pass between the seats and to the back. The Jeep is a lot narrower than a truck. When I get into the truck it feels cavernous by comparison. I'm thinking of a light bar in front (without lights) and one of these in the back https://www.google.com/search?q=jeep+hitch+kayak+extensions&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=kfG55VS_RIo5IM%3A%2CL8Ey927I2-WpGM%2C_&usg=__YfJdfdIFeuUczGOWmfPupoqIBmE%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj43dnm8qDZAhURw1kKHWDCDcEQ9QEI_QEwAg#imgrc=kfG55VS_RIo5IM: Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 12, 2018 Super User Posted February 12, 2018 My buddy uses one of the hitch extenders. Works well for him. 1 Quote
