Hey Guys I need some help, I am looking for a shallow water anchor for my RT178. I am looking at the micro anchor and the short talon 8ft. I have heard pros and cons about the micro because i would think that the boat fully loaded is definitely pushing the maximum holding weight. The Talon is twice as much but i would think would not have any problems holding. Also, if i go with the Talon, would the 40 extra pounds right on the motor slow me down considerably?? One other thing --does anyone know of a website or store that has the Talon's on sale right now ( i live in southwest louisiana). The micro's seem to be the same everywhere. Thanks and sorry for so many questions, I just want to make the best decision I can.

thanks

For that size boat I would go with the Talon. As for the 40 additional pounds you'll have offset weight somewhere else.

I'm in southwest Louisiana ?

Have tried Lake Area Marine in Lake Charles they sell Ranger.

Yes I bought my boat from Lake Area Marine. Great Service. Do you know of a place close to us that sells the Talons —that may have them in stock??? Do you have one, if so any issues, likes dislikes etc...

Landry's DHP Marine 5817 Common St is an Authorized dealer. Can't tell ya if they have em in stock.

That's the bad part of living in southwest Louisiana, not many choices!

You may want to consider our Sportsman II anchor as well. The Sportsman II is rated with a higher holding power than the Micro anchor but is only 19.35 lbs on the transom. The Sportsman II also retails for only $1295.00 and includes the wireless keyfob and dash switch.

The ProII will have the same holding power but is slightly lighter on the transom at only 17.7 lbs. It is also available in two colors vs. only matte black for the Sportsman II.

Both models will have the down and away deployment and superior holding power. Also, with built in drive off protection you'll never need to worry about damage to your boat or the anchor in the event that the anchor deployed upon take off.

If you have any questions about our products, please be sure to give us a call at 813-689-9932 opt 1 for sales. We can also help you find a dealer on your area that may have one in stock.

Bass Slayer, I have a 2015 RT178 with a 12 foot Talon.  I consulted the dealer about using a power pole but they said there wasn't any room in the bilge to add a pump and hydraulic hoses.  The talon has been OK.  I have never had a malfunction or problem but I honestly just don't use it a lot.  I have it mounted on a special bracket since the transom of the boat is not suitable to be mounted directly.  Had the Ultrex been available at the time, I think I would have just gotten that instead of a talon.  I would probably not use the micro anchor, the boat is a little to big for that.  I wouldn't worry about the added weight of the talon.

The ultrex just came out when my boat arrived . Decided to wait for a power pole or talon.

After using the Ultrex for a season, I honestly cant think of a time that I needed the anchor.

On the lakes I fish, when fishing shallow water, I am usually sitting in deeper water.

I put a 12’ talon on back, but went 36v TM and the extra battery up front will compensate accordingly

I don't think you will be happy with the micro's. that boat will push the limits on those. you will wind up buying a Talon or PP eventually. for that boat I would suggest getting it right from the start.
