papajoe222 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Why do I allow myself to be tortured winter after winter? I mean, isn’t the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? Why do I force myself to endure four months of not being able to present a lure to my favorite species of fish? It’s either brain damage, or a genetic disorder.. Maybe that genetic disorder is the cause of said brain damage. I have proof that my brain is damaged: I got excited when I realized that the power plant lakes around here will be opening in four weeks. FOUR FRIGGIN MORE WEEKS BEFORE I CAN EVEN CONSIDER HOOKING UP THE BOAT AND HEADING OUT..........AND I’M EXCITED????? Okay,I’ve admitted I have a problem. That’s the first steep. What’s the second step? Removing the obstacle? What if someone figures out what I’ve done with her.? Insanity defense, right? No, wait.....I’d have to plead guilty and that means doing time. More than the four weeks that started my realization. This could take a while to figure out. Luckily I have another bottle of Patr’on and four weeks to find a solution................If your don’t hear from ne in the next 24hrs. Don’t be concerned,I’ve likely just passed out. I’ve heard that helps. 2 4 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted February 11, 2018 Super User Posted February 11, 2018 @papajoe222 Braidwood will be open in 2-1/2 weeks. Newton is open and only a 3 hour or so drive for you. I'm gonna brush the snow off the boat cover in the morning and pray for a warm up. Another 2-5" overnight. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 11, 2018 Super User Posted February 11, 2018 I won't throw temps at ya. One of my sons and I were all set to put in. In fact we did put in, salt water, today, but didn't get past the dock as the wind picked up like nobody's biz. Ended up putting the yaks back on the truck and going mountain biking!!! Quote

At least you got close. Closest I've been to fishing is the seafood section at the grocery store. 2 2 Quote
Super User geo g Posted February 11, 2018 Super User Posted February 11, 2018 I made that decision 45 years ago, to move from NE Ohio, to South Florida. I have not regretted that decision for one second over the years! 3 Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 11, 2018 Super User Posted February 11, 2018 You have to positive with your down time. Read, read and read some more about bass fishing. Watch DVDs about bass fishing. Reorganize your tackle at least 30 times. Visit the on-line tackle stores and look at the baits and compare prices. Go to eBay or Amazon and look up the prices of your rods and reels. Put a picture of Louisiana and Florida on the wall and throw darts at it. Well, living in Louisiana does have its advantages. Even putting up with the big bugs and old people in Florida can have its advantages, too. 4 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted February 11, 2018 Super User Posted February 11, 2018 While winter plays games with my mind, it gives my wrist, shoulders and back a chance to heal. At least that is how I am choosing to think about it 2 Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 I’ve been slowly filling a box car with reloads for my .223 and making mental notes of southern stops along the rail line. Take heart in the fact that I’m an excellent shot at ranges under 600yrds. And that my only magazine holds four rounds. Quote

I'm not sweating it so much this year as years past although it would be nice for the warming to get started. We got another 5" of snow overnight, so I think that's 17" over the last 7 days. It's all been light snow, and not heart attack snow which is a good thing. 2 Quote

BuzzHudson19c Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Hunting helps man. Grab a gun and go harvest some organic meat. I waterfowl until January. Then small game a few times until March. Then spring snow goose mid march. Then fishing season begins. The whole time I would much rather be fishing, but it helps. Quote
