Msosebee95 Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 I need input on spectrum boats and force engines. Also need input on welded vs riveted boats. I found a 1996 spectrum dominator that I want to buy. It’s got a 70 force engine on it. It’s welded but has some rivers on the bottom. I need input on all this so I know whether this will be s good boat or not. Quote

Never owned one but a few friends did in the past. All had nothing but problems with them and would never own another. 1 Quote
tander Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 If it was me, I would keep on looking and Welcome !!! Quote
Msosebee95 Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 I also found a tracker pro 17 with a 40 hp Johnson tracker. Any input on it? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 9, 2018 Super User Posted February 9, 2018 New Force parts are not available anymore. 1 Quote
Cbrown1802 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I’m purchasing an alumacraft 1648 MV and I’m not sure if I should get the gravity livewell in the center seat or just have storage? I would mainly use it as storage so I want it to be dry. I would occasionally use the livewell. I’m worried about leaks when the plug is in. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks Quote
volzfan59 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 In 1997, I bought a new Nitro 640. It had a 75 horsepower Force. Great motor and boat, never gave me any issues what so ever. That being said, those outboard haven't been made in years. Like slonezp alluded to, parts will be an issue. I'd pass if it were me. Quote

ThatredneckguyJamie Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 in my opinion get any outboard you like...as long as its a Yamaha Quote

I worked in a boat dealership for about a year right after I retired from the Army, and we were constantly breaking people's hearts by telling them that we couldn't get the parts they needed. Quote
Msosebee95 Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 I’ve also looked into a 1991 bass tracker pro 17 with a 40 hp Johnson tracker engine. Would it be very reliable? It’s been very well taken care of. Quote
JimW Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Msosebee, I have a 1990 bass tracker pro 17 with a 40hp johnson tracker engine. It is a very stable boat, runs out well, not super fast but fast enough for me. I really like it, has a lot of room. The only two nits I have, the foot control for the troll motor is not recessed in the deck and it only has the live well in the rear deck. She's light weight and handles getting on and off the trailer very well. Personally, I think you would really enjoy the boat. And those Johnson outboards are easy to work on. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted February 10, 2018 Super User Posted February 10, 2018 Both Force (which was owned by Mercury) and the Johnsons have long been out of business. The huge difference is that there is virtually no parts available for a Force motor and there are a ton of "new old stock" and aftermarket parts available for Johnson Evinrude engines. The Johnson/Evinrudes just ran and ran. Keep in mind I am telling you this and grew up as a Merc guy. Quote
