I realize no one but me cares , but I just got my first boat. Its a 1986 Bass Tracker 1710 with a 90 hp Mercury. I got it cheap so Im getting to put alot of cool stuff on it. I fished alot in the early 90's but mywife  had a very serious car wreck and I had to sell all my fishing stuff to pay bills. So I look forward to picking your brains on here to get back into the swing of things. I went out this morning and caught 3 all were right at 2 1/2 lbs so that was a good first day in the boat.

I know exactly how you feel.  I've had my 1990 Bass Tracker 17' for about three weeks.  Congratulations!

Welcome. With that said, pls let me disagree with you on your very first sentence. There are a lot of us folks that care. Lots of good, friendly, and knowledgeable folks on here. It is always nice to read that a person has purchased a fishing vessel and returned to the game of 'fishing'. Sorry for the unfortunate circumstances that caused you to leave fishing in the first place. Welcome back.

Incredible shape.  Here's a few facts I pulled up from the 1986 BPS master catalog.

Original price of the boat with the 90hp, lowest package they had.  $8,995.

Touted as a 45mph boat with that motor.

17' 10" length

1020 hull weight

86" beam

Max HP 150

The boat originally came with tinted windshields and a full width bench seat.  That color combo is really unusual.  Most of them came in the dark Met. Gray with red striping.  They must have opted for an optional color upgrade.

From what I've heard, the boat is really difficult to dial in with a 150hp motor.  The hull has a very narrow sweet spot and anything beyond hitting it makes for an interesting drive.  With the 90 it should be relatively docile.

First...congrats!

Friend of mine just bought a very simliar boat...an 89 tho...he loves it! He says the thing handles great...runs smooth and dry.

He was a non boating partner on a tourney league and he says this old 89 runs better and feels better than his x partners 01 Nitro.

second...Cart7...you have got WAY TOO MUCH info floating around up there in the ole' brain pan. Dont you get headaches??? LOL!

Hey if you want to put windsheilds on it...I just made windsheild for mine...it is not as hard as you might think. I actually had fun doing it.

Congrats on the boat!

From the pictures it looks as though it is in remarkable shape!

Do it justice and get it out on the local waters ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Come on guys the grass wasnt that bad :-[. The guy threw in a roll of new carpet and Ive ordered new GPS fish finder for the console ,and one for the front. Also got an onboard charger , keel gaurd and hydro foil. By the time thats all in it I figure Ill have $3800 in the boat. Plan on having it maybe 3 years before the big upgrade. ;).

Boats runs very well and the motor couldnt be much cleaner. Would really like to find windshields. Any body on here any help with that??

Also  were gonna  take the instrument cluster off and redo it.   Some one suggested using contact paper with a wood pattern. Do you think this would word.   If so would it look stupid??

id just go fishing for now. GPS fishfinders are great and the on-board chargers are a must. one thing all boats should have is a mini tool kit. screw drivers, a few wrenches, a new set of plugs. a must is a shear pin and a floating wrench, you bever know where that next stump hides.

Nice boat!! I wouldn't use contact paper. I think it would look cheap. Maybe Plexi-glass with the back side painted or real wood. Use the old one as a template. Congrats on the boat and tight lines.
