FoulHooked Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 What is your favorite chatterbait style bladed jig? I know there are tons of brands and styles. From my experience some are better than others (mainly durability) What is your go to? And do you notice a difference from the lower priced $4 and $5 ones and the higher priced such as the Z-man jackhammer which can run upwards of $16? I know the style can produce big bites when other reaction style baits won't do the trick. Main question here is are the higher $$ baits worth the extra money or just a market ploy to charge more for essentially the same bait? Quote

They really thump. Seibert Outdoors makes one called a "Fogy" and is extremely reasonably priced. Less than $4 without any "upgrades" (wire-tied skirt + 30 cents). Karu Lures also makes one called a Vibrashock that I really like, a little pricier at around $6. Both of these are high quality and won't break the bank. Sometimes paying extra money is worth it and sometimes its not. It really depends on the lure. 1 Quote
Fish the Mitt Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 When the bladed jig popularity started, I jumped all over Z-Man's products. Every new model that came out, I got it. Over time, with more and more coming out, they got more expensive as time went on. However, I realized after a little bit that I kept reverting to the Original Chatterbait anyways. So I stopped chasing the product releases and used what I knew, and what I knew worked. I have great success with the Original Z-Man Chatterbait. I also like the Buddha Baits Swagger Jig (around $5-$6). However, I am looking at the @Siebert Outdoors Fogy. I've heard good things. Worth a shot and inexpensive for it's presumable quality. In most things in this industry, you get what you pay for - but not all things. Some are marketing ploys and gimmicks with no real up-gradeable value compared to competitors. For some, it's all in the name. Strike King can charge more for something because, well, it's Strike King. You also have the anglers who buy because it's popular, or new, or because John Smith's name is on it - so these products sell giving the illusion of greatness. Throw KVD's name on a thin wall ML/Mod blank and call it a flippin' stick and people will buy it... Stick to what works best for you. Go with your personal insight on what is quality and what is not. If I were to buy something every time someone (including the manufacturer) said it was the best, I'd be broke, and likely disappointed a lot. *Disclaimer: I have nothing against SK. It was used as an example. Quote
Iluvsmallies Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 I bought some dirty jigs pitching jigs and added a blade to it. I have about roughly 7.00 in the jig. It has a quality hook, skirt and good blade on it. 3 Quote

2tall79 Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 I like these D&M Piranha II's a lot. And they come with a matching trailer. They're kind of middle of the road at $8.99. 1 Quote
Russ E Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 I was a big chatterbait fan, until I tried the C&C custom baits bighead wobbler. It runs true and seems to last forever. (or until I lose them) they are made and sold locally. 2 Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 Z-man Original Chatterbait is all I need. 1 Quote

I buy them to make my direct connect bladed jigs that are very similar to the Jackhammer, except they cost me a couple bucks to make instead of $17 at the store. 2 Quote
LxVE Bassin Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I started out with the Original Chatterbait. I have also used the Chatterbait Elite but my go to bladed jig now is the 1/2 Project Z chatterbait, they also have an option with a weed guard. With that being said there is no need for me to try anything else. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. 1 Quote

Chance_Taker4 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 https://omegacustomtackle.com/products/rapture-vibrating-jig?variant=7118322466844 I absolutely love the Omega Rapture Vibrating Jig. It gives off a different action than the Z-Man and to me they have the best paint jobs I have ever seen. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 10, 2018 Super User Posted February 10, 2018 Started throwing this one from O.S.P. last season. I was looking for something different and perhaps a little 'smaller' This model has a clear blade & a smaller profile overall. A little hard to find but has been a good producer for me; especially on cooler, clear water smallies. A-Jay http://www.osp-lures.com/product/o-s-p-blade-jig/ 1 2 Quote
Smalls Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 For $10, you can pick up 50 blades online. I’ve never made a lure in my life, but at the prices even the cheapest chatterbaits go for, I’m gonna make my own this year. Plus now they’ll all be weedless. Quote
bigbassin' Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I like the Rage Blade from Strike King. Rides way higher in the water column than other chatterbaits, but I only fish mine around almost topped out grass, so I can keep it 1 foot or less below the surface while reeling extremely slow. FishDewd Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I only have one chatterbait, an original Zman in white/chartreuse. I'm still figuring out how best to fish it. I might decide to make my own because all it seems to be is a skirted jig head with a blade attached to the eyelet, and an attachment of sort sort to the blade itself. There are plenty of videos on youtube showing this process. I noticed some of you making the blade attach via split ring. I've never actually thought about doing that, but I assume it works pretty well? Thing I don't like about the Zman one is the hook size. It's massive and chunky, I don't think there are many fish where I usually go that can actually bite that thing. I recently added a little white mini craw thing from BPS to my chatterbait as a trailer, it matches pretty nicely. No idea how or if it'll improve anything though. Time will tell on that. Quote
