Multipurpose Rod Poll

I have my options limited down to these rods. I need help picking one

Completely subjective. What feels good in my hands is going to be uncomfortable in someone else's. What I like in a rod is going to be different from others. 

 

I personally have a 7' MH/F LTB that is one of my favorite rods I own. Lots of people out there think St. Croix rods feel tip heavy and don't like the reel seat on the LTB's. I'm just not sensitive enough to feel it I guess. I've used none of the others to compare it to though.

All purpose??? if it's going to be a medium heavy fast, I'd get the one that has the most moderate taper out of all of them. Think g loomis 843mbr

Ultimately, it comes down to how much you want to spend, applications, how much you value warranty, split grip vs full grip, cork vs eva, etc. Ultimately, the best high end all purpose rods will be between the Megabass Daemos and any of the Gloomis MBR 843 and 844. If I had to pick I would pick Megabass.

I'm kidding...sort of.  What @Bluebasser86said above.  I'd bet that few on here own all of those, so you aren't likely to get an OPINION comparing all you have listed.  And if you do, it'll just be an opinion.   If I was headed out tomorrow to drop more than two bills on a new rod, I'd probably look to Dobyns first...maybe compare them to St. Croix and Zillion.  Never held a Kistler, but I don't see why I shouldn't compare that one, as well. 

What more do you know/like/dislike...about the rods listed?

I do like the graphene part of the g rods line. But I like the long warranty’s of the St. Croix line and g rods but have heard about the St. Croix Rods being tip heavy. I do like the guides on the legend elite also.

id pick the daemos or a glx 843.

 

loomis has a great plan where they replace it if you break it ($100 shipped).

 

if value is not a huge issue, id grab the daemos. even over my nrx 843. just my opinion though.

 

id say if this all around rod is going to be used mostly for moving baits, get the glx. bottom contact and single hook moving baits - daemos.

If it was the only rod, the MBR GLX.  It is a bit more, but can be justified

I don't own one and I'm just too cheap to drop the coin...but a G Loomis feels REALLY good in the hand

I had an Expride (MH/F) and sold it; just didn't fish 'right' in my hands. Between my Helium3, LTB, and GLX MBR, the GLX is the one. All are very nice rods, but the Loomis just has the 'it' factor for me.

 

If price is a factor, then the Kistler is the way to go- lots of bang for your buck.

All of them are nice rods and the choice is subjective and is only a matter of opinion. Based on my opinion, I'd say the megabass daemos or loomis glx 843mbr. If I wanted to save some coin, the KLX.

I have heard though on reviews on tackle warehouse that the grip on the GLX has a bad grip and gets uncomfortable after fishing it. I use one finger in front of the trigger part for my grip on a casting rod if that helps.

Have you touched any of them?  If the answer is no, then don't buy ANY of them.  I've purchased exactly one rod that I didn't touch before hand  and it's now my most expensive and least used in my arsenal.  I use it and don't hate it but I don't love it either.  A rod should feel like an extension of your body.

MBR all the way.  Just awesome action it is so versatile I call it the best jack of all trade rods I own.

I tend to very much agree with this idea, now in practice where do you go to hold any or all of these rods.  When dealing in high end gear it gets really hard to touch the product before you buy.  Would it not be amazing to live around the block from tackle warehouse

I get it and I don't know the answer.  I've just found that if it doesn't feel right in my hand, I won't use it.  I was going to buy an Antares reel last year without ever holding one.  Decided to wait until I could get my hands on one.  HATED the way it felt in my hand.  Beautiful reel, top of the line, would have bounced around in my boat untouched.  Same thing, different outcome on my frog rod.  Was gonna spend a ton on one.  Didn't even consider a Diawa Tatula Rod....until I held one and it felt like an extension of my central nervous system.  LOVE that rod and paid half what my budget was for a frog rod. It's not how much you spend....it's how it feels to you

The reel thing does have a good answer and TW is the solution.  They let you test drive reels for like a week and then send them back.  Only program of the kind that i know of.  I dont believe there is a rod program like that anywhere, might be due to breakage or damage that can go unseen.

Geez man, last time I saw your thread on this it was between 2 rods. It's between the Daemos and the 843 for me, and I'll tell you that the Daemos is less expensive and has better balance and ergonomics. Get one fast before it's not an option, because Destroyer lines don't stay around forever
