Hello

I am in the market for a used Bass Boat

I have been discussing one with a local owner a 2005 Triton 186 TR with a Mercury 150 HP XR on it

I cannot take it out as it is 17 degrees outside

Any advice as to what to look for and how to perform a compression test myself?

Also any Triton owners opinions would be welcomed

Thanks

Mike

I was looking at them myself a little while back. Like all Tritons they have a nice ride. If the motor has been well kept they were very reliable engines.  It was purchased before I could pull the trigger.  I think you will be happy with it.

The only negative I can say about Tritons is their seats. I have seen a lot of them crack, split or torn., No worries. Just replace them with new ones from either Le Broc or Bass boat seats.com. Both are sponsors here so if you do order any from them thank them for supporting our site.  They will appreciate knowing where there business comes from.

Thanks fishnkamp

Upon further investigation, the boat needs new carpet, upholstery, electronic and gauge repair.

I passed on it, as I have several project currently

I think that C/L ad is a scam. Be careful

Try to find a boat that has been garaged and engine under 300 hours.

Elecrtonics, trolling motor you should upgrade to suit your needs, just put it up front in your budget. Stay away from bass boat that have been in salt water or located near the ocean do to corrosion issues.

Good luck.

I am not sure that the C/L is a scam. Most of the scams are more ridiculous than that. His pictures are in front of his garage and if he is local enough I would go look at it. He may not be using it anymore and just wants to get rid of it, or hew may have anew boat on its way and NEED to get rid of it.  I looked at a Triton 186 and the guy needed to get rid of it since his new boat was scheduled to arrive in 3 weeks. He had only room in the garage for one boat so he was offering a good deal.  It is worth a look anyway.

The boat that's sitting in my garage looked like a scam...8 years old, condition so close to new the difference didn't matter, less than 10 hours on the motor, priced below market...

I called anyway, figured calls are cheap.

Turned out it was exactly as advertised, and it's been here four years now.  You miss all the shots you don't take.
