Exactly.  Buy what you can afford and make sure you can afford what you buy.  There are too many companies out there that will finance you up to your eyeballs.  That's a recipe for disaster.  There's always going to be someone with a better truck, boat, house, you name it.  Don't fall into that trap.

Agreed.  So, let's keep this thread on topic.  Any discussion otherwise may/can be removed.

Yup.

...and us bottom-feeding cheapskates need folks who buy new boats and cars so can can buy 'em used at a fraction of the price later...

I am dead serious about that.

My friend, who does really well for himself, just bought his third F-350 Crew Cab Diesel in the Platinum trim, and his payments are over 1000 a month for the next 37 years.

Sanity check: Even at 1000 a month, that's $1000 * 12 * 37 = $444,000.

Something isn't right there.

Who even offers an auto term for 37 years? Did you mean 7 years?  That would be $84K which would be more realistic (though in my opinion insane... if he truly "does really well for himself" just save up and pay cash and forget 84 months of interest)

Agreed. But if someone puts it out on a public forum, it's (by definition) subject to public comments, questions and opinions (hopefully within commonly accepted boundaries of etiquette, decency and respect).

I figured the "3" was a typo and he meant 7 years...

You should note that I am the OP.  You should also note that I started this thread asking about preferred truck colors and was soon lambasted as a wasteful elitist because I am going to buy a 2yr old truck and even eventually called a "moron" by a highly-respected member of this forum because I don't care for a particular truck color because (shame on me) I saved $4000 buying a boat in that same disliked color.  Your "hopefully" faded a page or two ago.

and if worrying about color coordinating your truck and boat or being called a name on an internet forum are the biggest problems you have in life, then I think you've got it pretty good.

First tournament I ever competed in, a guy pulls up to the ramp with custom matching truck and boat. If I recall it was a purple truck that faded into a purple boat with accent colors. My son was just 14 and my partner. I had a brand new 17ft Mirrocraft v hull which was my first real fishing boat. He tells me "Dad, you've got the $#i++iest boat here."

My truck and boat match perfectly. It looks almost as if they were painted at the same time.  It wasn't planned that way (no, seriously), just got a great deal on the truck, and it happened to match. A happy accident.

Never, ever, thought twice about what other people think about it, or whatever fictional story they conjure up about me based upon what truck/boat combo I have. I'm sure there are those that think I went to great lengths and expense to make them match.  So what?  I like it, and that's all that matters.

By the same token, never do I ever pass judgement on others based upon their toys...expensive or bargain-basement.  They like fishing, and that's all that matters.

To the OP - if you want them to match, get a matching truck.  Otherwise it's going to bother you forever.  And don't be concerned about the opinions of others. You weren't placed on this planet to appease the narrow-minded.

I rarely make off the cuff remarks and apologized for doing what I knew was wrong. It goes back decades to a English teacher that told me I didn't know the difference between maroon and moron.

I think as long as 1 color highlite on the boat/tow vehicle is similar it looks good.

Now those trailer wheels... They HAVE to match !!! :D I'm just kidding lol

Me.... blue truck, camo colored canoe carried on top.  Not worried about what anyone thinks.  I could easily afford a boat, just don't want the hassles that go with one.  That's just me.

It's like you know me personally!  LOL!  Very true.  Once it's a thought in my head it remains for eternity.

I'm not sure the exact payment or time frame. While I will admit that I exaggerated the term length a bit, my point was that it was really long. Calling him to ask after seeing this comment, it's actually $1200/mo for 8 years, as he was upside down in his last one before he bought this one. Do trucks even last 10 years anymore?

Sure they do.  Mine has 150K miles on it, 8 years old, barely broken in.  My son's is 13 years old, 180K miles, and still runs and looks good.

They had better.  I'm keeping mine for as long as I can still drive it, barring any accidents.  From what I see around here, a 10 year old truck is just broken in.

I took it too literally, ha...    And they'd BETTER last more than 10

Revisiting a month old thread.

I owned my last truck for 12 years 180,000 miles. The truck before that was 16 years old 220,000 miles.

Bought my current truck 2 years ago. bought my current boat 1 year ago.

the accents on the boat match the truck, but it was unintentional.

I just liked the colors of each.

I will probably own both for a long time.

Even if I had a boat, my Tundra is Inferno Orange .... just don’t see a bass boat dressed in it...

Myself, I don’t have to have matching truck/boat.  Heck, my kayaks are blue camo and desert camo.

Don’t see it .. my daughter’s looking at a $40+K per year college.  Might look for something used when my truck is paid for.
