avidangler8 Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Does anybody know of any ponds or streams near Richmond that have chain pickerel? I know swift creek resivoir has some but I don’t have a boat so I won’t have any access. Anything helps! Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 6, 2018 Super User Posted February 6, 2018 Avid, get the 2018 Freshwater Fishing in Virginia free booklet and look at the locations that list the types of species found in their water. Page 39 has a list of the places that have Chain Pickerel. Page 21 tells you how many you can keep on any one day. Page 43 starts a list of locations that hold Chain Pickerel throughout the state. You can get your free copy at Dick's, BPS, Cabela's or Green Top. Good luck. Quote
LonnieP Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Lake Chesdin has them. I catch them all the time, not that I want to. I’ve also caught them at Picture lake in Dinwiddie county. They have a campground there and I’m pretty sure they rent boats. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 If you’re willing to make a small run. Newport News Park, about mile marker 250 on 64 east. Loaded! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 7, 2018 Super User Posted February 7, 2018 Welcome aboard! Richmond guys to the rescue! I can tell you every reservoir on the Peninsula has plenty of pickerel! Caught some mighty nice ones in my time on the water. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Firetiger crankbaits, or chartreuse spinnerbaits. Quote

avidangler8 Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 Thanks for all the responses! A little bit of background on me. I’m a senior at VCU currently and I’m an avid fisherman for any freshwater fish that will bite. Lately I’ve been trying to find places close by that have chain pickerel of any size just to catch and release some. My favorite type of bass to catch are smallmouth but like I said I love to fish for anything and everything. Thanks again for all the feedback, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get on some pickerel soon! 1 Quote
LonnieP Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 Whippernock marina at Lake Chesdin also has boat rental. Like I said earlier, Chesdin has lots of Pickerel and I just about catch one or two every time I fish there. Quote
